Sure, top knots have been on the scene for years, but it seems we can't tire of 'em. What can we say, we just love a good bun. But, that doesn't mean we're not giving the ol' twist a fresh update whenever we can. Our associate photo director, Sara McDowell, shows us how she's updating a billowy bun with a little fishtail action and a few key products from Herbal Essences. Click play above to see how to stay on top of your top knot game.

And, if you want more hairstyle how-tos, like glam s-waves or a volumized updo that's way easier to do than it looks, click here.

00:06Hi, I'm Sarah. Today I'm going to be showing you how to use Herbal Essences to create a stylish
00:11updo that's classic uptown chic but fresh enough for the downtown girl. Start with damp hair
00:16and then use Herbal Essences Set Me Up Mousse. Work it through your hair to really give you
00:22that extra lift right where you need it. To get that textured look that everyone loves,
00:26mist a little bit of the Tousel Me Softly spray gel across the hair. Now you're going to blow dry
00:32your hair using a flat boar bristle brush. Make sure to brush the roots upwards and blow dry them
00:38that way in order to create the most volume. Use a couple drops of the Moroccan My Shine Serum and
00:44just work this through the ends of your hair. It's going to help protect against frizz and leave it
00:49looking extra glossy. Now you're going to create a clean, tight ponytail. It's important to get it
00:54as high as you can on the top of your head. Secure it with an elastic band. For any flyaways,
01:00I'm going
01:00to use a tail comb just to smooth them out. Take a one inch piece of hair from the underside
01:07of your
01:07ponytail and you're going to do a simple fishtail braid. Once you've completed your braid, secure it
01:13with a clear elastic band right at the bottom. Now you're going to backcomb your ponytail in order to
01:19make this billowy bun. Once you've got the texture that you want, you simply twist it up and wrap it
01:25around the elastic into a ballerina bun. Make sure to keep the braid separate and then secure it with
01:32bobby pins. So now you're going to take the braid and you're going to gently wrap it around the base
01:39of the bun. You're going to secure the end of the braid. You're going to take the Set Me Up
01:44hairspray
01:45and then just spray for the final touch. This look is as simple as it is chic. It's going to
01:51be our
01:52go-to this party season. Come on. Okay.
