If there's one thing that takes your day from ordinary to extraordinary, it's a pair of statement earrings. You could be wearing the simplest of outfits (for example, a white T-shirt and jeans), but throw on a pair of arresting drop-earrings and you're suddenly working with something special.

00:07Hi, I'm Chloe with Refinery29 and today we'll be making some geometric drop earrings inspired
00:13by Marnie's 2013 spring collection.
00:15So what you'll need today is a piece of leather, some stones, a pen, scissors, a seam ripper,
00:22a needle and thread, fabric glue, jump rings, earring hooks, and pliers.
00:28So for your first step you want to flip your leather over to the back side and then you're
00:32going to arrange your gems in however fashion you want the earrings to look.
00:36And then you're going to take your pen and draw a rough sketch of what you want to cut
00:41out.
00:41It doesn't have to be symmetrical.
00:44So once you have a shape that you like, you're going to go ahead and cut it out using your
00:48scissors.
00:49Go ahead and lay it down on the leather again.
00:51We're going to trace the one you just cut out so we have a back that matches.
00:55Then you want to make sure they match up and trim any excess away.
00:59The next step you want to take your needle and thread and you're going to be sewing the
01:02gems onto the leather.
01:04I'm going to tie a double knot in my thread and then I'm going to go in through the back,
01:09pull it up through, and then go to the side and go back through.
01:16And I'm going to do this about three times, whatever feels secure.
01:20I'm going to tie a quick knot at the back, but it doesn't matter how messy it is on the
01:25back side because we're going to be covering it up so you don't have to worry.
01:28Just do a quick snip and you're done.
01:31And then you're going to do it with the other two sides for the turquoise gem.
01:34And then, once your turquoise gem is secure, I'm going to take these little gems and place
01:41them wherever you feel like on the sides.
01:45So, next I'm going to take my fabric glue and I'm going to turn over the backs and I'm
01:51going to just dab it across and then fit it on.
01:56Then just press down and make sure it's nice and secure.
01:59So next you're going to take your seam ripper and we're going to put a hole at the very
02:03top where you want the earring hook to go.
02:05Take one of the small jump rings and one that's just a tiny bit bigger and then open them with
02:10your pliers.
02:13Then you'll want to take the small jump ring and loop it through your earring hook.
02:20Next you're going to take your larger jump ring and fit it through the leather opening
02:23you made earlier.
02:25Then you'll take the earring hook with the smaller jump ring and slip it through the larger
02:32ring.
02:32Then you'll want to take your pliers and close up.
02:37And there you have it.
02:38Now you have a pair of funky, fun earrings that are designer inspired for much less.
