When you think of red-carpet hairstyles, elaborate 'dos that look like they took a dream team of pros, a vanity of products, and a fistful of pins come to mind. So, when celebrity after celebrity took it easy this past awards season and opted for the sleek, no-fuss bun, it threw us for a loop — pun intended. The humble bun — the hairstyle you sport after a workout — on the red carpet? Yep, that's the one. In search for ways to make it apropos for every occasion, we turned to hairstylist Adam Maclay.

00:08Today I'm going to show you a red carpet inspired look, a deep side parted bun.
00:14The key to achieving this look is nailing down your part based on your face shape.
00:18If you have an oval face, choose a center part.
00:20If you have more of a square face shape, I would suggest a side part.
00:24And if you have a more round face shape like our model, choose a diagonal part where you
00:28can incorporate the fringe to break up your face shape.
00:31First we'll begin smoothing out your ends with a blow dryer and a brush.
00:35Gather the hair at the nape of the neck.
00:37Begin by brushing from the bottom up to ensure the smoothest possible ponytail.
00:43Secure the ponytail with an elastic or try a bungee for thicker hair.
00:48Take a small section of hair and braid it into a fishtail.
00:54Secure with a small elastic.
00:57Take the remaining hair and twist it into a chignon or bun.
01:02Secure with bobby pins.
01:05Pull apart the fishtail braid to create an interesting texture.
01:08Then wrap the braid around the bun and secure with bobby pins.
01:12To finish this look, apply a dime size amount of aragon oil from the roots to the bun to catch
01:18flyaways.
01:18And add a cloud of hairspray to lock it all in.
01:23And that's it.
01:24A star inspired style for your everyday look.
01:26A star is a cat in theuli.
01:31It's a cat with a bird's trying to play.
