00:00Hi, I'm Danielle Franco.
00:01And I'm Eli Franco.
00:02Welcome to our Sweet Digs, our home away from home.
00:05Come on inside.
00:07We're up here in Tannersville, New York,
00:09which is about two hours north of New York City.
00:11We bought the house for $165,000,
00:14but it needed a lot of work,
00:15and we ended up putting about $40,000 into it,
00:19and that was with doing most of it completely ourselves.
00:22This house is about 1,500 square feet,
00:25and we like to spend our weekends here when we can.
00:28When we're not here, we Airbnb it.
00:31This is our dining area.
00:33The first thing I loved about this house
00:35were the 16-foot windows.
00:38The house was a complete mess when we got it.
00:40The windows were the only saving grace,
00:41really the only reason we bought it to begin with.
00:44I really worked extensively with my dad growing up
00:46on fixing up houses, building decks,
00:49but we really had to learn a lot as we went along.
00:52We ended up making this dining table ourselves.
00:54We couldn't find anything that fit our budget
00:56and fit the space, so we said,
00:58let's just make it ourselves.
00:59This is our kitchen.
01:00The biggest thing with the kitchen
01:02was getting these cabinets level
01:03because the floor is just so unlevel.
01:06I definitely don't do any of the cooking.
01:08I'm not even allowed in the kitchen.
01:09I think you can go in the kitchen,
01:11it's just you like when I do cooking.
01:13That's true.
01:14We've been trying to eat a little less meat lately,
01:16so I think mostly fish and egg-based dishes.
01:20Simple things.
01:21Over here is our living space.
01:23My favorite find for this house
01:26are definitely the hanging chairs.
01:28We found them on clearance for $99.
01:31Everything else we were looking at was super expensive,
01:33like hundreds of dollars.
01:34So when we found them, we were like,
01:35how many can we buy and where will we put them?
01:37The most expensive thing in this house
01:39is the couch from West Elm.
01:40It was definitely a little more than we wanted to spend,
01:43but I think it really makes a good statement in the room.
01:45The side tables in the living room are super cool, I think,
01:48because we actually made them.
01:50We found the bases from West Elm on clearance.
01:52They were actually planter bases.
01:54And then the top were Eli's moms that she collected in Fram.
01:59We called this house the Hunter Greenhouse
02:01because we're in the town of Hunter and the county of Green.
02:04And we also knew that plants were going to play a big part in our decor.
02:08And then we took it a step further and painted the house green
02:10so that there's no ambiguity that this is the Hunter Greenhouse.
02:15We were looking for interesting things to add to the house decor-wise.
02:18So we came up with this idea for a plant wall.
02:21Up until about a few weeks ago, the plant wall only went up to here.
02:24And now it goes the whole way up.
02:26This is the downstairs bathroom.
02:28There was a small closet in the bathroom
02:31that we really didn't have any use for.
02:32So we ended up taking out the door and kind of refinishing it.
02:36So it's a little space to get ready in
02:38while you're taking a shower to leave a towel.
02:40We actually ended up picking the paint color
02:43based on this really creepy old painting that we found.
02:47And we really just wanted to match everything to that.
02:52This is the one guest bedroom that I designed.
02:54When we bought the house, there were these two
02:57kind of similar downstairs bedrooms.
02:59And so we kind of just each took one to design.
03:03We wanted it to feel more open.
03:04So we actually took the closet doors off.
03:07And Eli built these really cool custom benches inside.
03:10And I hung this branch for storage.
03:14This is the bedroom that I designed.
03:16Danielle likes to claim that I somehow was attracted to this room.
03:21And it was my mission to design this room.
03:24But the reality is, is that this is the smaller room.
03:27The bed frame we bought was actually from Ikea.
03:30We spray painted it with automotive matte black spray paint.
03:36Let's go up to the loft.
03:37This is our loft area.
03:39We had a DIY wedding at my family's house in East Hampton.
03:44These wood beams on the wall are actually from the deck at the house.
03:49They were the runners in the middle of the table for the wedding.
03:52Our vision for buying the house was really as an escape from the city.
03:56We both live and work full time in Manhattan.
03:59So it was nice to have a place to get away for a weekend or a week and just unwind
04:04and relax.
04:05We met in college.
04:06We were at a Red Bull event.
04:09And I was wearing high heels.
04:11And there was this handicap ramp I was trying to walk down.
04:14And someone had spilled their drink, so I fell.
04:16And Eli saw it happen and kind of came over to save the day, scooped me up,
04:21took me to the corner of the room, and he iced my knee all night.
04:24I didn't really know her name or any contact information.
04:29And then at the end of the night, we went our separate ways and
04:32somehow found our way back to each other.
04:35And here's our master bathroom.
04:37I would never do penny tile ever again because, you know, you put it down,
04:43they come in sheets, and you lay everything out, and then you step back.
04:47And if it's not perfectly in line, you see every single seam.
04:51So we actually had to take everything up and do it again.
04:54We bought the concrete sink, and then we actually custom-built the vanity around it
05:00and painted it green.
05:01We also made this teak floor mat with a little bench beside the shower.
05:07And in here is the master bedroom.
05:09The master bedroom was actually one of the last rooms that we designed.
05:12We kind of established everything else in the house and put this on the back burner.
05:17It actually ended up being one of the coolest, and everything kind of came together really well.
05:20I think Eli is definitely the dreamer, and I'm the realist.
05:24He's like, oh, we need these hanging chairs.
05:26We need this hammock.
05:28And I'm thinking, how are you hanging it?
05:30I really had to sell Danielle on the idea because she didn't think it made any sense.
05:34He figured it out, and it's really cool, and it's relaxing, and people really love it.
05:38My favorite thing in the master has to be the wallpaper.
05:41I think I was kind of against the wallpaper because I didn't want it to feel too old-fashioned,
05:46but I think you found a really great one.
05:48We found this really cool grayish-blue pattern.
05:51I think it's really cool.
05:52I'm a dermatology PA, so I see skin cancer and rashes, and I treat acne,
05:57and I also do fun stuff like cosmetics as well.
06:00And I work for a software development company that does accounting software for large law firms.
06:05We both have pretty uncreative professions, I would say.
06:09It was nice to have an outlet and a big project to kind of funnel that creativity that we have
06:15into.
06:15I think our favorite thing to do in this house is just to sit with a good glass of wine
06:20and the hanging chair and listen to some records.
06:22I think as long as you have a comfortable place to sit and a nice view and these windows, you'll
06:28be okay.
06:39So you can see the
