00:00Hey guys, I'm Jess, and this is Beauty in a Snap.
00:04So today, we're going to be talking all about brows.
00:08But first, let me tell you a little bit about how I grew to love my brows.
00:12So let's take it back to day one.
00:14I was born on May 30th, 1990, with no hair and a full set of bushy brows.
00:20And they only kept growing from there.
00:21Flash forward to middle school, and I started getting bullied from my eyebrows.
00:25One of the popular boys said that they made me look like I was angry all the time.
00:30So that night, I immediately went home, pulled out the tweezers, and started hacking away
00:34at my brows.
00:35I continued waxing and tweezing all the way through high school, up until sophomore year
00:39of art school.
00:40And I didn't have a lot of money or time to maintain my eyebrows.
00:44So I just let them grow out all natural.
00:46Full bushy brows, a little bit of a unibrow, and I thought it kind of made me look edgy or
00:51like more avant-garde.
00:52I graduated college, and I decided that my eyebrow shape wasn't really matching how I
00:57wanted to present myself in New York City to try to find a job.
01:00So I started tweezing and cleaning them up a lot more than I did in college.
01:06Shortly thereafter, Cara Delevingne blows up, and her eyebrows are everywhere.
01:10There was tons of people rocking their natural, big, bold brows, and it gave me a lot of confidence
01:15to do the same.
01:16So it just takes a little bit of time and growing them out until I finally was able to achieve
01:20somewhat of her eyebrow look.
01:22Then I got a job at Refinery29, and I met this amazing woman named Tammy.
01:27She's a brow specialist, and she was able to transform my brows even more.
01:31So today I'm going to teach you a few tips and tricks that I've learned from her that
01:35you can use at home.
01:36We're going to go into a little bit of at-home wax strips, and I'm also going to give you
01:41some tips and tricks on how to tweeze.
01:43Okay, so let's get started with the waxing.
01:45So here's a tip that I learned from Tammy.
01:47She always puts a thin layer of some kind of Vaseline or petroleum jelly on the surface
01:52of the skin to make sure that there's no irritation when you lift the wax strip off.
01:56All right, so I just put a little bit of the Vaseline on my finger, and I'm just going to
02:00rub a very thin layer.
02:01So these strips are really great.
02:03Basically, you just pull them out, rub them between your fingers, separate them, apply
02:08them to the area, and then just pull it off.
02:10So the wax strips work really well for the center area, but for underneath the eyebrow
02:14where it's a little bit smaller of a space, I'm just going to go in with my tweezers to
02:18clean up those hairs.
02:19Before I start tweezing, I'm just going to fill in the shape of my eyebrow and use it kind
02:24of as a guideline so I don't over pluck in any areas.
02:27So now I'm going to go in and tweeze out all the hairs that aren't in the boundaries of
02:31my brows.
02:34All right, now for the final touches.
02:35I'm going to brush through my eyebrows a little bit more, add a little bit of pencil and some
02:39gel, and finish up with some concealer on any red spots.
02:53Okay, cool.
03:00So whether you're waxing and tweezing or going all natural, I hope that this video gives you
03:05a little bit of confidence to rock whatever style makes you feel more like you.
03:09Thanks so much for watching.
03:11We'll see you next time.
