00:00I'm here to tell you that light skin privilege exists. Unfortunately because
00:04light skin is closer to white skin, it is viewed as more societally correct. I
00:12think light skin privilege is when lighter skin people like myself are
00:16given preferential treatment or are seen as softer or more feminine or more
00:22approachable than our darker skin peers. We're seen as less black. Light skin
00:28privilege stops to make you think am I getting this because of a privilege that I was born with.
00:34I would say that it's extremely ignorant to believe that having lighter skin does
00:39not help you in any sort of way. It's up to the people who benefit from it to say
00:45something. I think it's all on us to identify where notions of beauty and
00:49pretty come from and to be careful about the ways in which we are assigning value
00:55based on that. And it's not okay. It's really not okay.
