00:12So you want to start tasting whiskey. What are the rules? What makes a whiskey
00:16good? Is it because it's more expensive, older, higher proof, being drank neat? What
00:20should I do? What shouldn't I do? So we're gonna kind of help guide you through
00:24that process so that you can look like a whiskey sipping expert. Most
00:29importantly, just relax. It's just whiskey. Step one, relax. It's just whiskey. If you
00:36don't want to try it neat, don't try it neat. Get a cocktail. Get it on the rocks.
00:40Get it with water. However you drink it in a way that's comfortable for you is
00:43gonna be the best way you can drink it. If it is higher proof, which most are, make
00:51sure when you're smelling that you breathe in through your nose and your mouth.
00:54Keep your mouth open, breathe in, above the glass. That way you're not getting
00:59the strong alcohol fumes up your nose. You're actually gonna get a lot more of
01:03the sweet aromatics coming through. So just wave it underneath your nose. Breathe
01:07in through your nose and your mouth. It's okay to swirl it around. Not a problem. No
01:12one's going to judge you and say, that's not wine. Don't do that. But that's
01:15completely fine. And always remember that the first sip, this is straight alcohol. The
01:22first sip is always going to be the most abrasive. So if you sip it as if you were
01:30drinking really hot coffee, it makes it a little bit easier. But get the first sip
01:34out of the way. Let it rinse over your tongue and then go back for a second. And
01:41then that alcohol be diverted a little bit. It's not as abrasive and a lot more of
01:46those flavors can come through. Best tip that I can ever offer anybody advice wise
01:52is if you are at a bar and you see a wall full of whiskeys and you have no idea
01:57which to get and you feel very overwhelmed, just ask the bartender. Ask for a
02:01recommendation and be honest. I usually drink X, what do you think I would like and
02:06said. And they can always recommend something.
