00:03We met at the Met and Patrick was trying to woo me.
00:06I actually really liked him a lot.
00:07And so what I did is I moved to Montreal.
00:12We lived in Montreal for five months.
00:13We periodically would come home and see my family.
00:16He really liked being in New York, actually.
00:18And so it was kind of convenient because I was going to go back to school
00:20and he could come with me and help me get settled back into New York.
00:24And then the border guys, border folks, said to Patrick that he could only actually stay in the country for
00:33a couple days.
00:34It wouldn't feel right if he wasn't there. So he stayed.
00:37The plan wasn't to get married, but it also wasn't not to get married.
00:43I think that we knew that our relationship was going in the direction of forever,
00:47but it sort of made us look at it a little bit differently all of a sudden.
00:51You know, we'd only really been together for a year, basically.
00:55But we had to start making some real plans.
00:58And so we did.
01:01The wedding day was exactly what you would never expect.
01:06Running late, City Hall closed at like 3.30.
01:12It was 3 o'clock and we were on our way down.
01:14My mother said, you guys have the paperwork, right?
01:17And we both forgot the paperwork.
01:18And so we had to turn around.
01:19She pulls up right out front.
01:21She says, go!
01:22And we just run.
01:23Give them all the paperwork and we're shaking.
01:24The woman says, where's your witness?
01:27And I said, oh, it's my mom.
01:28She's parking the car.
01:29She'll be here in a second.
01:30And the woman said, mm-mm.
01:32It's closing time.
01:33So I just turn around and I say, who here wants to be our witness?
01:37And Melinda's sent from heaven.
01:39Melinda, I don't know where you live, but if I ever meet you again, I'm going to name my firstborn
01:45after you.
01:46We got married.
01:46Melinda's there.
01:47My mom was there.
01:49There are like five pictures and it was really wonderful.
01:54Finally, we found the ring, which is, which is this, which is this ring.
01:58Every day when I look at it, it makes me feel like the most important person in the world.
02:02It's my little sparkly, shiny thing.
02:04I guess that's how married life feels.
02:06It kind of feels like all of this, you know, anxiety.
02:10Oh, what's it going to be like?
02:11And it's going to be perfect.
02:12And it's not going to be what I want it to be.
02:14And then the most beautiful part is when it's just simple.
02:19And, um, and when it's yours.
