00:01Well, this is lovely. Thank you.
00:06Just quickly to add to the thanks that Hugh Laurie began,
00:11I want to thank everybody at AMC and the BBC.
00:14I want to thank Susanna Beer, our producers,
00:17David Farr, who wrote The Night Manager adapted from John Le Carre's novel,
00:22to my agents, Christian Hodel and Brandon Liebman, who put this in front of me.
00:27Thank you. Tom Hollander, Elizabeth Debicki, thank you very much.
00:34A quick story, I know it's been a long night, but I recently went to South Sudan,
00:42which is the youngest country in the world in East Africa,
00:47with the United Nations Children's Fund.
00:51I do a little bit of work with them, try to help spread the word as best I can.
00:57And there's a terrible situation happening for children.
01:00The Night Manager is about arms dealing, and there are far too many arms going into South Sudan.
01:06But there's a curfew at 6pm every night,
01:09because humanitarian aid workers have to be inside so that it's safe by 6.
01:15And one night we were having a bite to eat at the canteen where we were staying.
01:20And a group of young men and women tossed it over to the table,
01:24and we were all having what they call a dirty beer in humanitarian language.
01:29And they were a group of Médecins Sans Frontières doctors and nurses.
01:34And they wanted to say hello, because during the shelling the previous month,
01:39they had binge-watched The Night Manager.
01:42And the idea that I could provide, or that we could provide some relief and entertainment for the people who
01:51work for UNICEF
01:52and Médecins Sans Frontières and the World Food Programme,
01:55who are fixing the world in the places where it is broken, made me immensely proud.
02:00So I dedicate this to those out there who are doing their best. Thank you.
