00:00Hi, I'm Veena Crownholm.
00:02Welcome to My Sweet Digs.
00:03Come on in.
00:07I currently live in Los Angeles.
00:09We're originally from the Bay Area.
00:11And I am a former Miss California,
00:13first Indian to walk on the Miss America stage back in my day.
00:17I am now a mom of two, a lifestyle expert,
00:20and a content creator.
00:22We own this house.
00:23We got a great deal five years ago,
00:25but we always look for homes that need a little love
00:28brought back into it.
00:29So we've really built a lot of equity into this house.
00:31We've done built-in bookshelves.
00:33We've redone the whole kitchen
00:34so that it flows really, really well.
00:36And it feels like the spaces work and they feel very modern.
00:40And we love it here.
00:42We absolutely love it here.
00:46All right.
00:47Today, because I have a newborn,
00:49we're taking Max with us on this home tour.
00:51One of the coolest parts about this house
00:53when we looked at it five years ago
00:54was all of this really cool woodwork.
00:56You'll see Tiffany glass.
00:57You'll see inspiration from churches
00:59that have come from around the world.
01:01The house was formerly owned by Vincent Ward.
01:03He was the director of What Dreams May Come
01:04and The Last Samurai.
01:07This is our fifth house that my husband and I
01:09have renovated together.
01:11And this has been our biggest project
01:12that we've done so far.
01:13But this house has so much cool charm.
01:18And we're going to go upstairs,
01:20and I'll show you where we really live.
01:23What I really love is this custom spiral staircase.
01:26It really marries the top floor to the bottom floor
01:28in such a cool and unique way.
01:33I'm going to take you on a tour
01:34of my combined laundry room and kitchen.
01:39Now we're getting to the part where I really love this.
01:43When you're not using the washer and dryer,
01:44there's drawers that slide out,
01:47and it's like they're not even there.
01:49And then I have all of my laundry supplies,
01:53air fresheners, sunscreens, it all pulls out.
01:55And it's just so neat and tidy, and I love it.
02:01I love to cook, and I love to entertain.
02:04And so the kitchen has been a huge part
02:06of what we've renovated about this space.
02:08We've opened up a wall.
02:09We have all new appliances that just work really, really well.
02:12Everything was thought of for like modern day living
02:15in the 2000s.
02:20I love anything that makes life easier.
02:22So what I love about this refrigerator
02:24is that you just put your foot right here
02:25and it opens hands-free.
02:29Now we're going to move on to the ultimate COVID purchase.
02:35This beauty right here has been on my wishlist for forever.
02:38It is the KitchenAid mixer, but I got it reversed
02:41because it's so much more budget-friendly,
02:43and it comes with a two-year warranty.
02:45And this little baby over here has made hundreds
02:47of loaves of bread, and I love her.
02:50She's like my new best friend.
02:51Let's go check out the living room.
02:56What I love is that this is more of like a great room space.
03:00And if there's one thing I've learned over the years
03:02is one really awesome design tip.
03:04Bring one color from your last room into the next.
03:07So you can see a huge theme of blue coming in from the front door
03:10all the way through here into the kitchen.
03:15The one else I absolutely love is another one of my pandemic purchases,
03:19which is the iRobot Roomba.
03:21Not only is it really fun for Max to watch it go around the house,
03:24it's Wi-Fi enabled, it has an app to schedule cleanings,
03:28and it gets underneath all the spots where I can't get all the dog hair.
03:33Not to mention it's also round, so it's really safe around the baby,
03:36and he has a lot of fun watching it.
03:38Let's see him do it.
03:40You know, I've always been really big on being budget-friendly,
03:43and it's actually what helps us continue to build equity as a family
03:47in everything that we do.
03:48And so I love eBay's refurbished program for just that,
03:52which means I get really quality products, name-band products,
03:55with a warranty for a fraction of the price.
03:57And so it just helps me keep in my budget that way.
04:05All right, Max, was that fun or was that fun?
04:09Now we're on to another cool part of our house.
04:11When we were designing this breakfast bar,
04:14we really wanted to bring in the elements of where we live.
04:17And so this wood is actually from the Hollywood Bowl.
04:21They're old seats, and it's awesome.
04:22And we just paired it with a great wrought iron bar stool.
04:28Let's go check out the bedrooms.
04:34All right, we're actually going to go check out Max's room right now.
04:38We actually made a built-in over here for the dresser,
04:41some shelf space, and space to put a changing pad.
04:45And I love keeping it a little bit more neutral,
04:47so this makes it feel light and bright in here.
04:49Let's go check out the master.
04:53So what I absolutely love in here is the stained glass closet doors.
04:57Now, they used to be wood colored,
04:58so we painted them white so that the room felt taller.
05:00Another huge design element that we have here is living plants.
05:04It just makes everything tie together from being outside inside.
05:07There's great sunlight.
05:09And then we actually took out the door over here,
05:12and we added in a reclaimed sliding barn wood door,
05:15just, again, to maximize space into the bathroom.
05:22All right, the baby's asleep.
05:24So we're going to go check on my husband,
05:26who built this COVID man cave.
05:28So let's go.
05:39Hey, babe, what are you doing?
05:40Hey, what are you doing?
05:42Oh, I've got a sleeping baby.
05:43Oh, hey, little baby.
05:45Are you gaming?
05:46Working?
05:46I'm just playing around, pretending to work.
05:49That sounds good.
05:50I'll let you be.
06:00During quarantine,
06:01we really realized that we needed a space outdoors
06:03that worked for our family.
06:05So we actually ripped out the grass,
06:07and we put in artificial turf,
06:08and then we bought an outdoor couch
06:10and really made a space outside that felt good.
06:12We spend so much time out here now,
06:14and it's just been such a beautiful space to be.
06:20We got a great deal on this home about five years ago,
06:23and in that time, we've renovated this entire space.
06:26We really love where we live.
06:27You know, we've had another child.
06:29We adopted a dog during COVID,
06:31and we really think this is quite possibly
06:33one of the very best places in Los Angeles
06:35to be when you're safer at home.
