00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the biggest hidden details
00:04and important takeaways from Vision Quest Episodes 5 and 6.
00:08Warning, we will be combing through all of the data and talking spoilers for Vision Quest as
00:13well as other MCU projects.
00:15So this is how you intend to do it.
00:20Number 10. A Digital Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
00:23Firewall, the fifth episode, picks up with the aftermath of Ultron's coup.
00:27You might expect this maniacal robot to start round two of Age of Ultron,
00:32but he does something else instead.
00:34That something else is having a chit-chat with his grandson Tommy.
00:38There were Sokovian children in my orphanage.
00:40For a conman who's flipped his fair share of two-headed coins,
00:45you should know there are two sides to each. Why not get to know me first?
00:49Like Vision, we are picking apart these frames and looking for interesting details,
00:53and fortunately, there is a big one.
00:55As the team goes through security footage, we see a flicker from Ultron's eyes.
01:01Technically, it's still Vision's eyes, but you know what we mean.
01:03I mean, we all saw him move at such a possible pace.
01:06Well, maybe he's not in control of his speed.
01:09The eyes glow, and it's a brief yet obvious reminder that we're not watching a human.
01:14Ultron might be stuck in the disguise of Vision,
01:17but if you blink here, you might miss that we're dealing with a monster.
01:20Listen, kid, I haven't taken you hostage.
01:23I only hope to capture your attention.
01:27You're welcome to mosey anytime.
01:29Number 9. Old-fashioned
01:30We never fancied Ultron as a drinker, but there is a first time for everything.
01:35While talking with Tommy, he orders an old-fashioned,
01:37and mentions that he wants it like how his father enjoyed it.
01:46The idea of Ultron having a dad is baffling, but not entirely far-fetched.
01:52What do you call these things?
01:55Ultron.
01:56Typically, Hank Pym is considered Ultron's creator,
01:59but in the MCU, it's Tony Stark instead.
02:02That means the line about the old-fashioned is a nod to Tony,
02:05but maybe also to Tony's drinking problem.
02:08The MCU never went full demon-in-a-bottle,
02:11but Tony clearly liked having a drink or two, or three, or seven.
02:15The after-party starts in 15 minutes.
02:22And if anybody, Trevor, doesn't like it, there's the dog.
02:28This all begs a bigger question.
02:30Does Ultron actually think Tony's his dad?
02:33Wow, this family tree keeps getting bigger and bigger.
02:36Number 8. The concept of transhumanism.
02:40Jocasta's a special breed.
02:42Deadly, smart, delusional.
02:44It's definitely why Ultron's got the hots for her.
02:47But beyond her cool abilities and ruthless ambitions is a central idea.
02:52Transhumanism.
02:53It's the concept of humans using tech to escape physical limitations like aging or even dying.
02:58Human, and yet not perfect.
03:04It's like watching Hannibal Lecter swipe right.
03:07Well, I've long since been liberated from my mortal coil.
03:11You sound relieved.
03:12That's right.
03:13In the future, we might be able to digitally back ourselves up to the cloud.
03:17It's an idea that borders on sci-fi, but for Jocasta, it's a reality.
03:22She tells Ultron she used to be Joe Carrington,
03:25but that her consciousness found its way into a machine.
03:27So what did you do to escape?
03:31Upload your consciousness to shell some weaponized sin?
03:37She's leveled up, but also become cruel in the process.
03:40Is a transformation like this ultimately worth it?
03:43That's an exciting question that we're hoping to find the answer to.
03:47All I know is that I'm better now.
03:51Free.
03:53Number 7. Trapped in Cyber Hell.
03:55In our breakdown of episodes 3 and 4,
03:58we touched upon how Ultron was an allegory for the devil.
04:01And if you're someone who dug that idea, you are in luck.
04:04The show doubles down on the parallels when Ultron pays the trapped AIs a visit.
04:09How's it feel?
04:10I trust you.
04:12Ah, trust.
04:14The adopted child of need and hope.
04:18You really are just you.
04:21And that, my boy, was your mistake.
04:25The prisoner has become the jailer,
04:27and Vision and the gang are left to suffer the consequences.
04:30Everything from the lighting to the digital flames to Ultron arriving
04:33makes it clear that the mindscape is hell.
04:36Well, at least a technological version of it anyway.
04:38Heads, keep the firewalls up,
04:41and trap us both here in some misguided effort to save the world.
04:49For Tails, you lower the firewalls,
04:54free us both,
04:55and save your son.
04:58All of these devilish details just go the extra mile to show us how awesome Ultron is.
05:03He's a fiend, but he's a fun one who'll mess with everyone.
05:06And we're glad he's back.
05:12Warning.
05:13Firewall disabled.
05:14System vulnerable to data breach.
05:17Please re-engage.
05:19Sure, superheroes are great,
05:21but villains can be epic too.
05:23And if you can't get enough of the bad guys,
05:25then we've got just the thing in store.
05:27We dish on all of the best supervillains,
05:29criminals, and more on WatchMojo's 24-7 livestream.
05:33Scan the QR code on screen for non-stop evildoer entertainment.
05:37I had strings, but now I'm free.
05:41Number 6.
05:42Welcome to Madripoor.
05:44Ultron always has a plan,
05:46and his plan for Vision involves stowing him on a plane
05:49heading to somewhere called Madripoor so he could rescue Tommy.
05:52We're on our way to Madripoor.
06:00It would appear that Ultron has left us on the way to Madripoor to rescue Thomas.
06:05Madripoor is a location within the MCU
06:07that's known for being a little shady, to say the least.
06:10Criminals run rampant over there,
06:12making it an extremely dangerous island.
06:15Madripoor also happens to be pretty significant
06:17since it used to be somewhere that Wolverine frequented.
06:21Look out!
06:27Vision and Tommy being there doesn't mean that the Adamantium Claude menace is cameoing,
06:31but it's yet another fun nod to Wolverine.
06:34Besides that,
06:35Madripoor is established by a stunning neon-heavy aesthetic
06:38that feels right at home with the cyberpunk genre.
06:40We can't recommend traveling to Madripoor,
06:43but the nightlife there is clearly a vibe.
06:45He doesn't approve of me.
06:47On the contrary, I'm glad he's found someone he can rely on.
06:50Unlike you.
06:51I'm doing everything I can to save his life.
06:54It's not just about saving it.
06:55You have to be a part of it.
06:57Number 5.
06:58Inside Jocasta's Brain
07:00Vision's mindscape is a cozy and colorful home,
07:03but we can't say the same about Jocasta's place.
07:05With episode 6, titled Deadlock,
07:07we get an uncomfortably up-close look at Jocasta's head.
07:11Things are packed neatly into white boxes,
07:13and everything else is sterile and nearly devoid of color.
07:17Well, look what the Wi-Fi dragged in.
07:19I thought I was invited.
07:23Let's toast, shall we?
07:25To a second date.
07:27It's a clear contrast to the mindscape,
07:29and that's the whole point.
07:30Vision is a synth who's trying to embrace humanity,
07:33and his mindscape is a reflection of that.
07:35Heck, even Ultron, to a certain extent,
07:37is embracing humanity more with his growing passion for the arts.
07:40It's nice to see bots instead of another AI
07:44can get awfully crowded and annoyingly loud in these mind spaces.
07:50Jocasta, on the other hand?
07:51She's a human trying to be a machine,
07:54closing off her humanity in favor of her technologically altered state of consciousness.
07:58Long story short, her house sucks.
08:00This, this isn't a meal, love.
08:04This is chess.
08:08Only, it's my pieces, my board, and I'm the queen.
08:17Number 4. Speed.
08:20Keanu Reeves and Nicolas Cage are finally in the MCU,
08:23but not in the way you'd expect.
08:25Once Tommy wakes up in captivity,
08:27he learns that Paladin has implanted an explosive within his arm.
08:31It's a scary predicament,
08:32but Tommy equates it to being like the plot
08:34of the 1994 high-stakes bus-boarding thriller Speed starring Keanu Reeves.
08:39You turned me into...
08:41What's his name?
08:43Speed.
08:47Speed?
08:48Yeah.
08:49You know, Keanu with the bus and the bomb.
08:51This leads to a funny tangent about the movie,
08:53as well as Nicolas Cage's The Rock,
08:55but it's also a pivotal scene, surprisingly.
08:58First of all, Keanu doesn't play a character named Speed
09:01in the same way that Nick Cage doesn't play a character named The Rock
09:03and Bruce Willis doesn't play Detective Die Hard 2nd.
09:06If the bus slows down, that's when the bomb goes off.
09:10So technically, this is reverse Speed.
09:13That's because Speed is actually the codename Tommy uses
09:16when he officially becomes a superhero.
09:18Maybe it's a little silly,
09:19but at least Tommy's got his name now.
09:22If they keep this up,
09:23maybe Kurt Wagner will get his name
09:25after watching Jake Gyllenhaal's Nightcrawler movie.
09:28I'm fairly certain I'm allowed to film this.
09:30Film what?
09:31I don't know. What's happening?
09:33Walk away or get arrested for obstruction.
09:35Yes, officer.
09:36Hurry up. Get out of here.
09:38Number 3. Oedipus.
09:40Jocasta and Ultron get quality time together in Episode 6
09:43as the two sinister chatbots conspire to get what they want.
09:46In one of their conversations,
09:48Greek mythology gets brought up
09:50and Jocasta mentions Oedipus,
09:51which is important for a couple of reasons.
09:54And you are the mother,
09:56the beautiful queen of her board,
10:01Jocasta.
10:04Well, if you're Oedipus in this terribly disturbing allegory,
10:09you're even more twisted than I thought.
10:11In Greek mythology,
10:13Oedipus was a man who fell in love with a woman also named Jocasta.
10:16However,
10:17it is shockingly revealed that she's actually his long-lost mother.
10:21Yeah, it's gross.
10:22And when Oedipus finds this out,
10:23he blinds himself.
10:24It feels to me like your Greek tragedy
10:28has a deuteragon that's unaccounted for.
10:31Since Joe Carrington is revealed
10:32to be one of the leading trailblazers of AI in the MCU,
10:36she is arguably a mother to so many different programs.
10:39Ultron and Jocasta's growing relationship is strange,
10:42but hopefully it doesn't go full Greek tragedy from here.
10:57Number two,
10:59Lisa gets infected.
11:00As Ultron and Jocasta continue working in tandem,
11:03they begin carrying out Jocasta's evil plan
11:05of turning humans into mindless drones.
11:07She would have turned Tommy into her first victim,
11:10but Ultron actually stopped this from happening.
11:13Not the boy.
11:15Because you can?
11:18Because if you harm the boy,
11:21Vision will come for you,
11:22the force that even I can't stop.
11:24You might feel like this is a moment of good from him,
11:27but it's short-lived since he has no qualms
11:29with Jocasta infecting Lisa afterwards.
11:45As Lisa gets taken over,
11:47Vision and Tommy do their best to safely neutralize her.
11:50But what happens next?
11:51We've already speculated about Lisa becoming coat of arms,
11:54but is this how that's going to happen?
11:56Is Jocasta's experimentation going to have lingering effects
11:59that lead to Lisa's powers?
12:01Who knows?
12:02For now,
12:03let's just hope Tommy's girlfriend makes it out alive.
12:06Then this conversation is over.
12:20Before we continue,
12:21be sure to check out WatchMojo's 24-hour livestream.
12:24All of your favorite videos in one place,
12:2624-7.
12:27Always on,
12:28always live.
12:29Are you not entertained?
12:32Number 1.
12:33Remembering WandaVision
12:35So far,
12:36this show has not been afraid to get weird.
12:39WandaVision has been referenced at length,
12:40and Episode 6 took great steps
12:42to sprinkle in tons of nods to that era.
12:45Wanda Maximoff was so consumed
12:47with her grief at losing the vision
12:49that she...
12:51she enslaved an entire town to serve her needs.
12:54Near the end,
12:55Tommy and Vision finally debrief
12:57about what WandaVision was,
12:59and it's a somber moment.
13:00Vision points out Wanda's spiral,
13:02and Tommy wonders more about his memories.
13:05In her desperation to hold on to that love,
13:08she became unrecognizable,
13:11even to herself.
13:12The most heartbreaking part
13:14is Vision reminding Tommy,
13:15and us,
13:16that he is not the same Vision
13:18from Wanda's hex.
13:19He's the one's sword made,
13:20and he comes with all of that extra baggage.
13:23Vision's deflection is yet another way
13:25he tries distancing himself from his son.
13:27Ultimately,
13:28this blast from the past
13:29doesn't bridge the two together.
13:31Instead,
13:32it only creates more of a rift.
13:34That's where my memories come from.
13:38Of you.
13:44No.
13:46No, Thomas.
13:48Not me.
13:49Are there any extra Easter eggs
13:50from these episodes
13:51that you think we missed?
13:52Share your thoughts in the comments,
13:53and also let us know
