00:00Alright, so that was the address made by Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu, urging the people to stay safe, stay
00:07indoors, and also pointing out the fact that the topmost priority is to save human lives.
00:14Let me bring in Apoorva, who's in the thick of things at this point in time.
00:19Apoorva, in terms of how the authorities, the ground authorities are grappling with the multiple challenges that they may be
00:27faced right now with,
00:28tell us the one big hurdle that really is like challenge number one for them at this point in time.
00:40Well, the one major challenge that poses for the officials is in fact going to be, you know, the public
00:47safety there as well.
00:49Even this afternoon when we had been seeing several, you know, time and again warnings that have been posted by
00:56the AP government, including the Chief Minister as well,
00:58advising public not to venture out into, you know, these streets there or even to beaches as well.
01:05Several public kept continuously coming out as well and that's the number one priority because officials are going on continuously
01:12monitoring.
01:13They are shifting people, those possible, to these nearby areas and rescue and effort measures, reliefs for evacuation that is
01:21being taken up.
01:21But the next, you know, 12 hours, like I said, it's going to be unimaginable because one, you have torrential
01:30rainfall that will be lashing across close to six districts,
01:34a vast area of land that will be covered by Cyclone Ornab as well.
01:39Not only, you know, let's not just start talking about the rains, but we also have these gushing winds that
01:45will be going ahead and be taking force in this next 12 hours as well.
01:51So, that will also be something that the officials will have to take stock of.
01:56And more importantly, if you do see the after effects of Cyclone Ornab, what will be?
02:01Which is that the debris that has fallen on the highways, the roads as well as the several, you know,
02:07various kinds of vehicular damage and what not,
02:11that will have to be taken a stock of.
02:12Especially if you see the Konasima, the Godavari belt region, which will also bear a major chunk of, you know,
02:19Cyclone Ornab's debris there,
02:22there will be a severe loss for the agrarian families that are living there because it's a majority agrarian culture
02:30there in East Godavari and West Godavari as well.
02:33In both the Godavari belt, you will see heavy loss of life to, you know, the farming, farmlands, agricultural lands
02:40as well.
02:40The farmers will be most badly affected by this.
02:44Apart from this, you will also see the infrastructure damage that might take place.
02:48Because we're looking and we're talking at close to over easily 160 kilometers per hour of speed that will be
02:55at which Cyclone Ornab will be making a landfall.
02:58So, it's not going to be easy to see and also to estimate what kind of damage can be done.
03:04Yes, the state government is working towards ensuring that there is minimal loss of life.
03:08In fact, zero loss of life is the goal that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Narachandra Babanidu has kept for Cyclone
03:15Ornab.
03:15But how far that will turn into a reality and hopefully it does turn into a reality is all that
03:22we can wish and pray for.
03:24Just stay on, Apoorva. I also want to show our viewers at this point in time the multiple reports that
03:30you've done.
03:31Apoorva, my colleague, has been on the ground covering Cyclone Ornab, the preparedness and everything around it.
03:38Take a look at some of the reports filed by Apoorva.
03:42We're here in Kakinada, just at Upada, where the effect of Cyclone Montha, as you can see, is already in
03:49full effect.
03:50The next 24 to 48 hours will be extremely heavy rainfall and winds that will be lashing across Kakinada,
03:59well into Yanam and Shattapatnam as well.
04:02With the cyclonic storm that is raging now, turning into what only seems to be a very severe cyclonic rage
04:10as well,
04:11the Andhra Pradesh government has taken forth all preparations underway.
04:15As per IMD predictions, Cyclonic storm Ornab is all set to make its landfall between 8 a.m. and 12
04:24.04 noon tomorrow morning.
04:26But as you can see, the rage of the sea and the winds have only been increasing steadily over the
04:34last couple of hours.
04:36Andhra Pradesh government has also put out several helpline numbers for those people who are stuck in this region
04:43so they can reach out for help as well.
04:46And in fact, NGRF teams, APSGRF teams have been deployed in various locations for those who want to go ahead
04:55and seek some kind of respite from these torrential rains that are lashing across Kakinada
05:03and the coast of Andhra Pradesh towards Vizak as well.
05:08For now, in Kakinada alone, there's a class 10 warning that has been issued at the Kakinada port.
05:15Highest warning that has been issued for the extremely severe cyclonic alert ahead of Cyclone Ornab.
05:23But in other areas as well, with monitoring that is going on completely,
05:28it looks like the next 24 to 48 hours, the state of Andhra Pradesh will be bearing the brunt of
05:34Cyclone Ornab.
05:35With video journalist Irfan at Upada in Kakinada, APU Rajeshandran in Jachuday.
05:41So, you've come here, you've taken stock of the situation.
05:44What are the arrangements that we have been able to do so far?
05:48For the Ornab Cyclone, we have made elaborate arrangements in terms of Cyclone shelters.
05:54And we have also deployed staff across the district, at the village level, at the Mandel level, even at the
06:01division level, we have deployed staff.
06:02We have alerted all the emergency departments like fire, the NDRF, SDRF, and we have mobilized them,
06:10put them in place in the villages and using the support to encourage the people to come to the shelters.
06:15Because they are used to this cyclone and the tendency is that it is like every other year, please don't
06:22push us to move to the shelters.
06:24But we are convincing them to make them move to the shelters because this time around the cyclone is going
06:28to be much, much severe compared to the previous years.
06:30We expect the gale winds to reach up to speeds of, say, 120, 130 kilometers per hour.
06:36So, we are worried about their safety.
06:39So, we are encouraging them to move to the shelters.
06:41And, sir, you've been monitoring the situation on ground.
06:43What does it look like?
06:44What are the preemptive measures that we've taken?
06:47So, I think approximately five to six areas are being affected.
06:53The major effect is being seen in the Kwanseema district and equally in Kakinada, Rajmendari, and the Rashtugadharan, Gailuru.
07:01From the LX3 department side, we have mobilized huge amount of manpower.
07:06We have deployed manpower from the Rylseema area to this part of the state.
07:10And the materials such as the poles, the insulators, and all the materials have been kept ready.
07:15So, we have been giving almost half an hour alert to all our field staff tracking the precise movement of
07:21the cyclone.
07:23So, we have set up multiple control rooms and VHS sets have been activated.
07:27And our control rooms are continuously monitoring the situation.
