00:21It's unmistakably a Continental GT, but the hard work now remains to develop the car ready
00:27for the race series in 2014.
00:32The unique challenge is really to see if there was any weight that we could lose to make the
00:38racing car a little bit lighter than the road car, but still have the road cage, still have
00:42the stiffness and still have the strength.
00:47You want the lightest, fastest car. The car has to be robust, it's got to be reliable.
00:52There's three things and it's always safety, reliability and performance.
01:17The body panels are all made out of carbon fiber, the road car is reasonably heavy, so we need
01:24to save a load of weight on this race car.
01:26The GT3 series also requires that we bring the car below 1300 kilograms.
01:32So to do that, we have stripped out wood, leather, chrome, the luxury items out of the car and
01:39very quickly got it down to a fighting weight of 1300 kilograms.
01:43We've taken the standard shape of the Bentley dashboard and centre console and adapted them to be a one-piece
01:51structure in carbon fiber and it's taking about 10 kilos or more out of the weight of the whole thing.
02:07The engine is basically a four litre V8 twin turbo, very much based on the road car, but with slightly
02:15stronger turbos, carbon inlet manifold and some specific exhaust manifold.
02:22So pretty much a road car engine tweaked up for a load of torque and power.
02:35It has plenty of power and torque as one would expect from a Bentley.
02:39The engine is allowed to be repositioned slightly to optimize weight distribution.
03:07We're still in the early stages of our development program and what we're doing here in Portugal, at Porto Maio,
03:13is to do a 30-hour
03:14endurance run, which will then prove our car at the development phase that we are at the moment.
