00:01After suffering an anaphylactic response, Liz Allen's daughter had been on the waiting list to see a specialist for nearly
00:08three years.
00:10Then last week a letter arrived in the mail informing her she was being taken off the list.
00:15I was in shock, utter disbelief that a letter like that would be sent and sent out of the blue.
00:23More than 65,000 people are waiting to see a publicly funded specialist in Canberra.
00:29As part of a review by Canberra Health Services and a change in eligibility criteria, some are now being removed
00:35from the list altogether.
00:37We have waited on this list patiently in the belief that she would get the medical treatment that she needs.
00:46She now needs to ask her daughter's doctor for a new referral to get back on the public wait list
00:51or go through private clinics.
00:53If someone has got communication or a letter from us and you consider that we've not fully appreciated the situation
01:00or there's additional information that you think that we've missed, we're very happy to talk through that.
01:06It doesn't matter which way you look at this situation, it's diabolically bad.
01:10The opposition wants the territory government to honour the original waiting list.
01:14We understand that they're going through a process of review but we don't believe that that process of review should
01:20mean weeding out everyone on the waiting list and starting from scratch.
01:24We feel like as a family we are in nowhere land kind of trying to navigate this issue.
01:31CHS says the review aims to ensure patients with the greatest clinical need can access specialist care sooner.
01:38be good with theuto.
