Astronomers may have found a giant planet around one of the smallest, dimmest stars ever studied.
Meet PALTA-1 b, about 54 light-years away. Its star is an ultracool dwarf, so faint it barely glows. For eight years, telescopes watched that star wobble, pulled by something huge and unseen β a giant planet, a world like Jupiter where almost none should exist.
Honest note: it is still a candidate, not yet confirmed. But if it is real, PALTA-1 b breaks the rules of how planets are born.
