00:00...de tag team competition to new heights.
00:05When you think about the Hardy Boys, craziness comes to mind.
00:09The Hardys indeed are high flyers, they're risk takers.
00:11The Hardy Boys.
00:13These guys were just nuts.
00:14They're insane.
00:15Talk about excitement!
00:17Talk about extreme!
00:18The Hardy Boys were totally revolutionary.
00:22Jeff and Matt Hardy were brothers and they came from a small town.
00:25It started off obviously we were just huge fans.
00:29110%.
00:29And we're like, wow, these guys are living, breathing superheroes.
00:32Yeah, Rey Mysterio, Psychosis, we're like, wow.
00:34You know, do you think we could do this when we grow up?
00:36We signed our first contract, the WWE, and, you know, that's what we'd always dreamed to do.
00:40After that, we lost about, I think, 30 matches straight.
00:43Again, the Hardy Boys being somewhat dismantled here.
00:46They were really young.
00:47They just get beat up.
00:48Welcome to the big time, Chico.
00:50I remember this one match.
00:51One of the Hardy Boys does this flip dive to the floor.
00:54Just misses the guy, just lands on the floor.
00:56And I was like, whoa, these guys are nuts.
01:00We were small.
01:00At the time, we felt invincible.
01:02They were an exciting tag team.
01:04But in the end, they just couldn't win the match.
01:08The Hardy's wanted to get out there and make an impact and do anything it took to make that impact.
01:14They had to do something different.
01:15They couldn't have the same matches that other guys were having.
01:19No Mercy was the turning point of our careers, mainly because it really showcased what we could do.
01:24The first ever tag team ladder match in WWF history.
01:27For the opportunity to have more exposure, they had to be really unique, really, really good.
01:33And they were.
01:34And they got that opportunity, man.
01:35They took it.
01:36Uh-oh.
01:36Going for the ladders right away.
01:38Oh, yeah, you're right.
01:39Here we go.
01:39When the ladder came into play, man, there were no stopping us.
01:42You've never seen a tag team ladder match before.
01:44And they were just going for it.
01:46They were one of the first tag teams that were high flyers.
01:49And they were daredevils.
01:51They would do crazy things.
01:53We're going to take a lot of chances.
01:54You'll see a lot of high-risk offense.
01:56What's going on here now?
01:57Christian, helpless in the middle of the ring.
02:00Look at that!
02:01He dropped the ladder, for God's sakes.
02:03And dropped the ladder.
02:04The huge low drop over the ladder.
02:07Nothing looked safe, which made it exciting to me as a fan.
02:10What the heck?
02:11They used the ladder like a catapult.
02:13He can't get it.
02:14He got it!
02:14Oh, no!
02:15Oh, my God.
02:16The Hotties have won the match.
02:18That match opened up a world of possibilities with a simple ladder.
02:23The 16th WrestleMania on the air!
02:27The triangle ladder match was the match that I was looking forward to the most.
02:32There was three teams involved.
02:33It was something completely new at that point in time.
02:35We watched that ladder match to see if Jeff Hardy was going to kill himself.
02:39Literally.
02:40The stuff he did off that ladder was just unbelievable.
02:43Don't do it, Jeff!
02:45Don't take this chance!
02:46Stop, stop, time, time on the ladder!
02:49When we saw Jeff Hardy jump off that ladder, onto the Dudley boys on that table, that moment
02:54right there wasn't real.
02:55I think the fans were just so ready to go, what's next, what's next?
02:59And the Hardys were right there going, this is what's next.
03:01At some point, we had to develop our own personality.
03:03They have that special rock and roll, cool type of swag.
03:09And they have the baggy pants.
03:10And I was like, those guys are so cool.
03:13As a female, was there any sex appeal to the Hardy boys?
03:16Yes.
03:17You know, good looking gentlemen, you know?
03:19They dressed apart that generation that wanted to see, you know, different color.
03:24Blue, purple hair, all this kind of crazy thing.
03:26They just seemed like rock stars.
03:28Matt, Jeff, and Lita, Team Extreme.
03:31The addition of Lita was extremely unique.
03:35You know, Team Extreme, it's something we'd never seen before.
03:37She was the diva version of the Hardy boys.
03:40And she's like, you know what?
03:41I don't want to do diva stuff.
03:42I want to do what these guys do.
03:44My God, have we ever seen anything like this in our lives?
03:46As a fan, you're just like, this is the coolest thing I've ever seen.
03:49We'd already been hanging out in our free time.
03:51People at home watching, we were them.
03:53You know, we just seemed like friends that hung out.
03:56The females dug it, the guys dug it.
03:58They were what kids wanted to be.
04:00I don't know about you two, but this has been my dream ever since day one.
04:03When we get to SummerSlam that year of 2000, and we had the first ever TLC match.
04:07Tables, ladders, and chairs are all legal.
04:10When you look at the TLC matches, and you look back at what those guys did, it was incredible.
04:15The Hardys.
04:17That must be a 20-foot ladder.
04:20Swartong!
04:21From there, it just kept going.
04:23And how many great table, ladders, and chairs matches have the Hardys been in over the years?
04:28And still the cream of the crop.
04:30They brought a different sort of attitude and style to WWE.
04:35It really brought tag team wrestling kind of back to life in some kind of weird sense.
04:39Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, no one takes the risk that we do.
04:43They were definitely an electrifying team.
04:45And they were real pioneers for tag teams.
04:48And so they deserve that place in history as being one of the greatest tag teams of all time.
