A three-day strike by around 40,000 Haryana electricity department employees has triggered widespread power outages across Gurugram, Nuh, Rewari, and several other districts. The agitation opposes the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission's decision to grant a private firm a parallel power distribution licence in Gurugram and Nuh, with workers warning it risks public sector revenue and thousands of jobs. The blackout has affected over 50,000 households and roughly 1,800 manufacturing units, leading to severe disruptions in basic water supply and small commercial businesses. The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam logged more than 5,500 complaints within 12 hours as frustrated residents took to the streets to protest. Meanwhile, Haryana Power Minister Anil Vij initiated discussions at the PWD Rest House in Panchkula to break the stalemate, maintaining that the state government opposes privatisation and will legally challenge the regulatory commission's order to resolve the escalating crisis.

00:01The big news break is coming in from NCR in Gurugram and other cities and districts, I credit myself for
00:07Haryana, where there's a complete power shortage and that is leading to protests on the ground as well.
00:13One is because of a strike by the electricity department, government department employees, who've been on a three-day strike.
00:19So now there's a meeting happening, as was scheduled, between the minister, Anilvich, and their employees.
00:25Within 12 hours, ladies and gentlemen, from midnight to morning, 5,500 complaints were received by the electricity department and,
00:34of course, by the customers, by people living in and around Haryana, from Gurugram to new parts of Rivadi as
00:41well, where protests have broken out.
00:42This three-day strike is among the employees who have basically put forth demands against privatization of the electricity department.
00:51They are saying this will lead to a loss of jobs.
00:53This will also then lead to certain revenue issues as well.
00:58Aseem Basi is joining. Aseem, tell me more about this meeting between Anilvich and the striking employees. What is being
01:04discussed and will they be able to resolve it for the night today?
01:11Well, just to tell you, there is a delay in the meeting. The meeting was due to start between Power
01:17Minister Anilvich and the agitating employees' unions at around 3 p.m. in PWD West House in Panchkola.
01:22But it's been one hour and we are standing there at the meeting venue. The meeting is yet to start,
01:27although Power Minister Anilvich has already arrived. He is inside a room behind me.
01:33Well, on that side, there is a conference room where the meeting will take place. But as of now, the
01:39meeting has not started.
01:40The meeting has not started and it has learned that the government is serious to break the deadlock because there
01:46is a lot of situation. The situation has led to a lot of problems across Haryana, in Gurugram, Noon, Sonipath,
01:54Rotat, Dhajjar, Rivari, you name the district, everywhere there is a power crisis.
01:58Although, the government is trying to make its efforts through helpline numbers and also using police into it and the
02:05retired employees also, but with 40,000 employees of the electricity board going on strike against the privatization of license
02:13given to a private player in Noon and Gurugram for the distribution of power, this entire mess has started in
02:20Haryana with power cuts and efforts happening all over the state.
02:25But now, this meeting is a big hope for the people as well and now the employees as well. When
02:31this meeting starts and what is the outcome, but the government, Anilvich, the power minister had categorically said in the
02:36morning as well, that yes, they will set aside this private license being issued to one of the private players
02:44and will go by the demand of the agitating employees.
02:48But what comes out after the meeting, even if there are more demands, is the entire situation further goes, is
02:55escalated or the entire deadlock breaks, time will tell.
02:59But the meeting is yet to start and the power minister is already in the venue. Some employees are there,
03:04some employees are yet to come.
03:05So the meeting is yet to start and all eyes are on this meeting because the entire Haryana is watching
03:10this meeting. What will be the outcome of this meeting?
03:12Stay on with me, Asim, because what we are looking at are the visuals of what a dark night really
03:18looks like in Gurugram and a city, remember, which takes pride in the fact that it is one of these
03:24big metropolitan cities, a cyber city, but with over 50,000 houses at least that have been impacted.
03:311,800 industrial units have been impacted. And remember, several other sectors which have no information of whether the power
03:39will be back and when, and not every society of the colonies have backup like the skyscrapers.
03:44So here's a report for you to understand how a city like Gurugram went dark for the past two nights.

06:35company license to distribute electricity in gurugram and noob the employees union argues that
06:43private operator in high revenue areas could undermine the public sector system and endanger
06:49around 40 000 regular contractual and outsourced employees
