00:00It is a picture perfect late October night in Chicago and at Soldier Field, week 7 begins with a marquee
00:08matchup as the Chicago Bears will try to send the home folks home happy behind Caleb Williams coming off a
00:16top notch outing in Atlanta on Sunday and ready to face the runner up for MVP last season, Drake May
00:22and the New England Patriots on Thursday night.
00:25Now they spread it out, five receivers, again a short drop, a pump fade, throws to the near side, caught,
00:33and that is Ramondre Stevenson coming out of the backfield and picking up the initial first down of the game.
00:39They bring both Stevenson and Henderson into the backfield on a second down and 12, little flip, one-handed grab
00:45May there, Henderson, and he'll set up what will be about a third down and six, he's popped there by
00:51Devin Bush.
00:53And Henderson, much like Stevenson, has his ability, look at that, one hand brings it in.
00:59Play clock at two, play clock at one, they will go for it, and May is under pressure, and May
01:05is hit, and May is dropped.
01:07That was Kyler Gordon, here he goes again, and look at this again after last Sunday.
01:13Yeah, they brought five from one side, they just, they didn't have enough offensive linemen to slide over to pick
01:19it up, and like you said, Al, we saw this last week.
01:22On prime, doubleheader, now Chicago with the ball, Williams throws, hits, and a big game here, breaking a tackle is
01:30Luther Burden.
01:32Luther Burden takes it inside the 30-yard line, right to the air, he goes for 26 yards.
01:38Five minutes into the game, Williams, took it to the right, and wide open, but he couldn't connect with Khalif
01:46Raymond.
01:49Torrey Taylor puts it down, Shantos puts it up, and the Chicago Bears take the early lead.
01:58And I think the first three weeks, they were settling and adjusting to that, and I think they found their
02:03groove now.
02:05You know, I think back, about a four-yard game here.
02:08Gordon this time, back in coverage.
02:10Play clock at two, pressure, has to get it away in a hurry, and it's incomplete.
02:16So again, pressure put on Kyle Williams, that time was the intended receiver.
02:22And it's fourth down, they'll kick.
02:24Burden is the man in motion.
02:27Williams comes back to the left, and smothered at the 25-yard line is Swift.
02:34Defense does a good job playing zone, eyes on the ball, able to get the ball thrown underneath.
02:39And they're able to leverage that football, not give Swift any room at all.
02:43Hopefully he's going to be all right.
02:44He walked off under his own power.
02:47Little only shuffling up front.
02:49May wasn't sacked once.
02:51He's been sacked once tonight, and this is a play that goes nowhere to Mario Douglas,
02:56who's had three touchdowns in the last two weeks.
02:59Tackled by Kyler Gordon, fourth down.
03:01Just keep an eye on these linebackers.
03:04They're showing pressure, and then they're able to get out.
03:06I mean, look at that.
03:06Devin Bush is running out there before the ball is even thrown to help that entire,
03:11they've got four defenders out there.
03:13And a second down and ten.
03:18To the near side.
03:19That's caught and close to a first down.
03:21And there they are.
03:23In the top 12 and everything.
03:25We're going to throw them wide open, making the grip at the 45.
03:29Luther Burden.
03:30Burden all the way inside the 10.
03:32Tackled at about the 3.
03:34Kevin Byard saved the touchdown for the moment.
03:37First and goal.
03:38He's having a great year for him.
03:39He just gets lost in coverage.
03:41You've got two defenders in the same spot.
03:43An easy window.
03:44Once he...
03:46Bring a tight end into the backfield.
03:49Swift is the back.
03:51Swift passes.
03:51Swift to the outside.
03:53Swift to the end zone.
03:54Touchdown, Chicago.
04:05Third and two.
04:09Over the middle.
04:10Caught.
04:10That'll move the sticks.
04:12And all the way out to the 50-yard line goes Eli Raritan.
04:16The first World Series win since 08.
04:20That was a great series.
04:21Unbelievable.
04:22Here's May now as we start the second quarter.
04:25Throws.
04:25Caught.
04:26And a 9-yard gain here for Ramondre Stevenson.
04:30May is 7 of 9 for 60 yards.
04:35Backing.
04:36Surveying.
04:37Chase.
04:37Throws on the run.
04:39Caught.
04:40And that will take the ball over the 20-yard line in the hands of Hunter Henry.
04:49Nice hole opening up over the left side.
04:52And that will set up a first and goal.
04:55Ramondre Stevenson.
04:57Henderson is now the back second down and goal.
05:02Pump fake.
05:03He's going to run it.
05:04And he's going to take it to the 1-yard line.
05:07He sees it's gone with fumbles.
05:09They have 11 on the year.
05:10I was worried.
05:11Is he trying to reach this ball out?
05:12I was thinking get...
05:14So close.
05:16And so close.
05:18And I love his competitive spirit here.
05:21The hip still up.
05:24And that continues tonight.
05:2647-yard kick return.
05:29Williams surveys.
05:31Another open man.
05:33And then it's gone by Cole Komet.
05:35Still doing his thing in his seventh year here.
05:38About these tight ends.
05:39Mostly Loveland.
05:40But Komet has size as well to be able to make those kind of plays.
05:46Williams.
05:47Under pressure.
05:48This time they get him.
05:51Could not escape.
05:52You got Leonard Taylor the third.
06:00Swift.
06:02Turns the corner.
06:03Picks up about five.
06:05First down.
06:06Cole Komet.
06:07One of those three tight ends with a key block there.
06:10And then Swift goes in motion.
06:13And then the ball is...
06:15Joe Tooney walks up with it.
06:19On a trick play.
06:21Beautiful.
06:21Oh.
06:22Executed.
06:23Illegal board handing.
06:26by number 18 handing off to an offensive lineman.
06:30Five-yard penalty.
06:32Lost down.
06:33So you're handing it off.
06:34It can't be forward.
06:35Now remember, they just had the jet sweep to infect the eyes.
06:38They come right back with that jet sweep look.
06:39But look, he hands it to 62.
06:42He tries to duck to try to hide that he has the football.
06:46Terry.
06:46The fumble rooski.
06:47All kinds of stuff.
06:50To the end zone.
06:52And it's dropped.
06:54And it's pushed off as well.
06:56So Adunze was there.
07:03Three more for Chicago.
07:05How fortunate are you to go to what organization do you land in?
07:10May escapes.
07:13Patches May.
07:14It's Chisholm.
07:15His first grab of the night.
07:21May escapes.
07:22May's going to pack it in.
07:24May's going to keep on running.
07:26And it takes a pop.
07:28From the rookie.
07:29In a minute.
07:31Let me effing know when A.J. Brown comes out of the locker room.
07:37Perfect.
07:38Good.
07:38First down.
07:40Pass to the end zone.
07:41Is intercepted in the end zone.
07:44And that's the end of that drive.
07:46DeMarco Jackson taking the spot that T.J. Edwards normally plays.
07:51He's an active tonight with the pick.
07:57Soldier Field roaring.
08:05Fired.
08:06Caught.
08:06Over the middle.
08:08Burden.
08:09And his big half continues.
08:12But there's a flag back.
08:13All the way back at the 25 yard line.
08:17Burden in motion.
08:19Hands off to Swift.
08:20Swift cuts it back.
08:22Nice move.
08:23To the 17 yard line.
08:25He goes Raymond to a nice block that time.
08:28Ticking down to a minute to play.
08:30First down.
08:37Williams runs into his own man.
08:39And then a whole bunch of white shirts gather.
08:42At the same spot.
08:44Bears will take a timeout.
08:47There he is.
08:48On the right defensive side.
08:50Catch is made here.
08:51Inside the 20.
08:52Inside the 10.
08:53Oh, we'll end in the touch.
08:54End zone.
08:55Burden for the touchdown.
09:0124 yards.
09:04For New England, he's been the beast of Burden.
09:06Yeah.
09:08How about that little flip like a shortstop?
09:10Look at the right tackle.
09:12Darnell right out in front.
09:13The receiver's doing it.
09:19May over the middle.
09:21He's caught.
09:21And going to the ground is Brown.
09:23Speaking of Brown, there he is.
09:24He makes his first catch of the night.
09:27There's some crazy stuff for the Sanford band or whatever.
09:33May.
09:35Going to flip this one here.
09:37to Stevenson.
09:38Looks behind him.
09:39Looks for somebody.
09:39Maybe the lateral too.
09:41Steve, look at him.
09:42Look at him go.
09:43Can you believe this?
09:46Touchdown.
09:48Of all crazy things.
09:53Yep.
09:53That sums it up.
09:57defense is yet two defenders back here.
10:01And then you got A.J. Brown working over here.
10:04Man coverage takes him with him.
10:05I mean, this is something you just never see in the NFL.
10:08Look at this side of the field.
10:10You got, you got Pop Douglas making a block.
10:13But really, that's it.
10:16That's that man burdened again.
10:19Williams looking that way.
10:22He's able to escape pressure.
10:25Drive loving it.
10:26Picks up a first down.
10:28This is what Ben Johnson, look at you, you see his trail here.
10:30I mean, look at this.
10:32He's got to avoid Corey Durden and ups and downs and moves around.
10:36And everybody's in man coverage.
10:37So once he got it around.
10:41Swift.
10:42Room.
10:44And Swift close to a first down.
10:46Might have gotten it.
10:47Tackled there by Marcus Jones.
10:49This one will be a yard shy.
10:51And, of course, Bayard providing that as well for the Patriots.
10:55No doubt.
10:57Williams pressured again.
10:59And fires and that's caught into the 20-yard line.
11:03Loveland again makes the grab.
11:06Made it easy that time once they picked up the blitz.
11:12Williams escapes.
11:14Williams runs.
11:15Williams, we'll see where they spot it going to be.
11:18Wants him to play within the offensive structure.
11:21He also wants him, when it's there, to still use those legs.
11:24Last in the NFL, last year in the red zone.
11:26Different story this year.
11:28That's caught.
11:29Breaking a tackle.
11:30Trying to get to the end zone.
11:32Is Loveland.
11:35He's in there.
11:43Well, Ben Johnson certainly put that disaster at the end of the half in the rearview mirror.
11:49They're playing it that way anyway.
11:51From the 20-yard line.
11:53May, his first pass of the half.
11:56That is caught.
11:57That is Hunter Henry.
11:58He's been around a long time, 11 years.
12:01What club is that?
12:02Seven hires for me.
12:04It's the only one I got.
12:06From the 34-yard line.
12:09May airs it out.
12:10Deep down field for Brown.
12:12And he can't make that grab.
12:14Coverage was very tight.
12:23Do a nice job blocking Gordon out of the play.
12:26Steps away from what would have been a loss.
12:29And winds up hitting his tight end, Hunt Henry, for a first down.
12:35Six penalties.
12:37Assess to both sides.
12:40May escapes.
12:42A sack throws.
12:44And there's Brown making the grab at the 36-yard line.
12:47And so on a second and 12, Gordon blitzed again.
12:50Three receivers set to the left.
12:53Second and 11.
12:54Blitz again from the secondary.
12:57Pass.
12:57Pulled in at the 25-yard line.
13:01Again, going to the tight end.
13:02That's Hunter Henry.
13:04May getting the protection settled up front.
13:08Pressure again.
13:10May throws open.
13:11Making the grab.
13:12Touchdown.
13:14Eli Raritan with the score.
13:2030 yards to bring it back to a one-possession lead.
13:25Closure.
13:25Making sure he's got the protection where he wants it.
13:28And now you've got a matchup that's very favorable.
13:30This rookie tight end can get downfield vertically.
13:336'6", 245.
13:35Third down and seven.
13:41Dillon throws.
13:42May have a tip and it's incomplete.
13:44No question.
13:45Henry scored five.
13:46Raritan's caught three with two tight ends.
13:49Pass is caught here.
13:50And once again, you go to Henry.
13:53Tight end to the 40-yard line.
13:56And on third and six.
13:59May escapes.
14:01May is going to pack it in.
14:03And May is going to get dumped two yards.
14:05Side of the first down.
14:06Devin Bush came in to upend him fourth down.
14:10Brought the pressure again off the edge to tie it in as actually Henry's walked up.
14:14So he's on the linebacker who ends up dropping.
14:16He's able to come over and help out on Cam Lewis' safety.
14:20The blitz.
14:20And how about that open field?
14:24Extra pressure.
14:25Look out!
14:27Escapes the sack.
14:28Throws.
14:28Caught at the 31-yard line.
14:31Roma Dunze.
14:32We're talking about Ellis.
14:34Boulain's here.
14:35He'll drop.
14:35But he goes with Bolton Loveland.
14:37And once again, the legs and mobility.
14:40It still comes back to the line of scrimmage and their ability to get a push.
14:43Yeah, New England leading in time of possession by about two minutes.
14:48Breaking tackles.
14:49Spinning.
14:50Still on the move.
14:52Pushing the pile to the 50-yard line.
14:55DeAndre Swift.
14:57I mean, he broke three tackles there.
15:03Pressure again.
15:04Hangs in.
15:05It goes.
15:05Open.
15:06Caught.
15:06First down on the fourth and two.
15:08They go right back to Loveland.
15:10But a flag.
15:11A flag is down.
15:14To try to make it a two-possession lead.
15:17Santos' kick is off the upright.
15:21No good.
15:23It makes 27-21.
15:30Now he moves up.
15:34May.
15:35Look out.
15:36Swallowed up at the 32-yard line.
15:39Austin Booker.
15:41First guy in there.
15:43Set up the umbrella here on a third and 20.
15:47May throws underneath room here.
15:50But figures to be tackled.
15:52The first time you never know.
15:54With Stevenson.
15:56Raymond sets up in the slot.
16:01Rolling.
16:02Throwing.
16:03Again, he goes to the tight end.
16:04This time it is Komet.
16:07Blocked down to five minutes.
16:09Catch.
16:12Third down and nine.
16:13From the goal line he throws.
16:16And at the 30-yard line.
16:18Catch is made by Roma Dunze.
16:22So we're making the window very, very tight.
16:26Somehow he gets that in there.
16:28Over top of the second and 12.
16:34That is a dunze again.
16:37That fights his way out to the 50-yard line.
16:40Tackled by Byard.
16:47Rolling.
16:53And slides to a stop in front of the bench.
16:57Run out by Ellis, who has been all over the place.
17:01I'm going to go play action here.
17:03He lines him up in the gun.
17:05Yeah, he's going to go to the air.
17:08And he's able to not avoid the sack.
17:11He's out of field goal range.
17:12Whoa.
17:13Christian Barmore.
17:17Johnson trusts him to make this call.
17:19It's because he knows that he's either going to make a completion.
17:22Or he's going to use his legs to make something happen.
17:25The last thing he can do is what he just did.
17:28Yep.
17:32Yeah.
17:33It's on its way.
17:34And it is good.
17:42You talk about Ben Johnson believing in his guys.
17:46This guy's never made a kick this long in his career.
17:49If he misses this kick,
17:51Drake May has the ball close to midfield at the 48-yard line.
17:56I mean, this is all or nothing by Ben Johnson.
18:00This is why his players love him.
18:02And that clearly added plenty of distance.
18:05I thought he took him out of field goal range.
18:12May airs it out.
18:13Right side.
18:14Caught.
18:14Brown will get out of bounds with it.
18:17First down.
18:18About 8 to 10 yards.
18:20And then they got to kick a field goal and try the onside kick.
18:22No question.
18:25He said May is going to go for the touchdown here.
18:29And the pass is incomplete.
18:33No timeouts.
18:37May escaping throws.
18:40Caught.
18:40Douglas to the 28-yard line.
18:43They should spike it and try the field goal.
18:45I'm with you.
18:46Yep.
18:47Then he cut it to 6.
18:53He can.
18:55And so you've got 37 seconds.
18:59And an onside kick forthcoming.
19:01A drop kick left.
19:03That didn't work very well.
19:05It's like a knuckleball.
19:06These drop kicks.
19:07Squibbit.
19:08That's what they do.
19:10And it is Adunze who comes up with it.
19:14Tricky.
19:15Big hop.
19:16And it just.
19:17It's like a ground ball.
19:18It just stayed down.
19:20See the first three.
19:22Defenders from the Bears are trying to just make a block.
19:25Let Adunze have room to be able to.
19:27To the postgame show.
19:31And so on a night when the Bears play for the first time since the passing of
19:36Mike Ditka.
19:37The Chicago Bears go to 5-2 in the NFC North.
19:43The New England Patriots drop to 4-3 as the season approaches the halfway mark.
