the apology scene is the one I can't settle on, so let's argue it properly.

For it counting: she knows everything by then. She's the only person who understands what he did, and she says it out loud — no audience, no excuses, no request attached. That's more than most characters in this genre get.

Against it counting: the apology arrives after the person who needed it has already decided. It doesn't change anything. It isn't repair, it's a receipt.

And there's a third option nobody mentions. Maybe it isn't for him at all. Maybe it's for her — the only way to stop being the person who didn't notice.

Which would make it honest and useless at the same time, and that's the most realistic thing in the show.
