00:00Rufus, Hal has done some pretty questionable, maybe even some bad things in the past,
00:05but can we all agree that nothing is as awful as getting in the bed with shoes on?
00:12That is disgusting.
00:15Are your shoes on?
00:16Yeah.
00:17You keep them off.
00:19No.
00:21Listen, I tried to argue my way out of that.
00:25Or rather, I didn't.
00:26I thought about it, but I know Deb by now.
00:28But she wants something.
00:29It's pretty gross.
00:30You're going to get it.
00:31It's pretty gross.
00:31Yes, exactly.
00:32And as I said before, sometimes I'm playing Hal, but in that scene, I'm playing men.
00:38And I'm sorry.
00:39That's who I get to represent.
00:42I'd like to apologize to everyone.
00:45And it's also the fact that I'm just insisting on it, too.
00:49Well, we accept the apology.
00:52But truly, you guys, what an incredible season.
00:55I have to start also with the episode one ending.
00:59Down!
01:00God!
01:01Down!
01:01It's on fire!
01:03Move!
01:03Shut up!
01:04What is your reaction when you're going through the script and you're reading that scene for
01:07the first time?
01:08Deborah Kahn, you genius.
01:10Yes, exactly.
01:11I mean, we go into, you know, the first episode thinking, oh, great.
01:15Or when it arrives, you just think, okay, because I really want to know what happens next.
01:20And why does she hate Emmy winners so much?
01:23Yeah, exactly.
01:24And then you think you're dealing with the major, what's going to be the major drama, you know,
01:29going into season three and you realize the ante is up and the rug is pulled from under
01:35you.
01:35And that keeps on happening, as you know.
01:38You know, it's very exciting for us reading those things.
01:41We tend to send each other little exclamation marks and whatever, you know, one word text.
01:46Because we know what we're talking about.
01:48Is that the moment that you guys sent the most exclamation marks for this season?
01:52That was a big one.
01:53One of them.
01:54But it just keeps coming.
01:56I mean, this is not a little relaxed ride this season.
02:00It keeps moving.
02:02No, and you always know when it's going to be like a really, really big one.
02:07Because then we do a read through when the last few lines of the last page is redacted
02:13for most of the cast.
02:14So no one gets to see it.
02:16Until they read it out loud.
02:19Now, often the case like with this last season and with last season, the last episode,
02:24we've already read it because we know what, because we have the lines, we have to say them.
02:28But everyone else in the room has not.
02:32Yeah.
02:33So you get to, as the page turns, sometimes you hear a couple of pre-gasps when everyone
02:39is reading ahead.
02:40And I've said this before, but one of the main pleasures is Atto being there because his
02:44reactions are always so vocal and fantastically satisfying.
02:49And the reaction in the room at the very end of the last episode was really exciting because
02:56it's just like, I read it and I thought, oh, you know, I had mixed feelings.
02:59It's a very powerful ending, but like I had mixed feelings about it, just like, how is
03:03that going to land, et cetera.
03:04And then you just got this reaction in the room.
03:07Yeah.
03:07Which was very exciting because it's like watching it and reading it at the same time.
03:11Speaking of that final episode, what is going through Kate and Hal's mind as they both walk
03:16up to Grace in that moment?
03:18I love you so much.
03:20It's not the person.
03:21Are you?
03:22So we're much better off bickering together.
03:34So many things.
03:35I'm not going to tell you.
03:37Yeah.
03:37So many things.
03:38I mean, it's so many things at that moment.
03:41I think it's such a nice writing and, um, and also not quite, not quite knowing for
03:46sure.
03:47You not quite knowing for sure.
03:48Like I always think it's very important.
03:50You can see that we're thinking you can't ever know what someone is thinking, but you
03:55just know that something is going on.
03:57And I think that mystery that not quite knowing is part of it.
04:00Yeah.
04:01Yeah.
04:01Like, what are they going to do?
04:02We can know.
04:02What are they going to do?
04:04Yeah.
04:04And why?
04:05What are their reasons?
04:06People online really do.
04:08They recognize this couple as maybe one of the messiest, but also one of the most nuanced
04:12and beautiful couples on television.
04:14For those who love this dynamic, what are the moments that you're most excited for them
04:18to see this season?
04:19Oh, so many gems.
04:22I mean, we have a long walk, uh, to go have dinner with the president and her husband.
04:27I love that.
04:28It's a classic, a classic.
04:30Just when she decides to drop some news on me that I, that I'm going to need to know
04:36before we get to dinner with the president that I could have appreciated learning a little
04:41earlier so I could go through all the stages of rage, grief, bargaining, acceptance.
04:44But I'm so smart and I just want to let you know because you'll love it.
04:47You'll love it.
04:48She's so proud of her little idea.
04:50Um, I, that's a great scene.
04:52I mean, I also.
04:54The things we love.
04:55Are when they're in trouble.
04:56Yeah.
04:57There's trouble.
04:58Anytime they have like a back and forth, it just, it feels like they're in their element.
05:03They are.
05:03Anytime one of us has done something stupid or something.
05:06That's, yeah, that's the good stuff.
05:07We like a bit of losing, you know, like we like getting it wrong.
05:10Where they're in the chapel and there's this beautiful heartwarming moment.
05:16Are you sure?
05:20Worse and worse.
05:24Till death do us part.
05:27Keri, I know you've talked about working with Alex Grave and how they have like this emotional pulse for the
05:31show.
05:32Talk about bringing that scene to life too.
05:34Um, yeah, Alex really, he is such our, um, general, like our fearless general who leads us through.
05:43He's, he's our favorite director on this show.
05:45And, um, you know, he, he's worked for so long on these giant big shows like, you know, um, Game
05:53of Thrones.
05:54Game of Thrones and all these massive, I'm like, what's the name of that really popular show?
05:58You know, massive war, you know, tons of extras, locations.
06:03But also the detail, you know, that's what he's a master of.
06:06That's what he's so good at.
06:07So I think, um, I love that he's willing to come to our show because our show is not always
06:14so big.
06:14And he has such a love of that, that intimacy and the truth.
06:21And, um, and he grew up, you know, with Deborah on the West Wing.
06:25They both started on that show.
06:27So, um, but that chapel scene.
06:30Yeah.
06:30I think he just has such a visual art to him.
06:33He's such a master of the big stuff as well.
06:35And, um, and he, I'm, I'm so glad it was him.
06:40He always starts and ends our, our seasons.
06:43He does the first two and the last two.
06:45We love all our directors, but he's, you know.
06:47But he's, he's the face.
