During World War One in nineteen fifteen, German forces launched a massive poison gas attack against the Russian defenders at Osowiec Fortress in modern day Poland. The chlorine and bromine mixture destroyed vegetation and killed all exposed life around the fortress, leaving the surviving Russian soldiers severely coughing up blood through ruined lungs. Believing no one could possibly survive the toxic onslaught, German infantry numbering over seven thousand men advanced confidently to capture the trenches.

To the utter horror of the advancing German troops, a counterattack suddenly emerged from the greenish fog. Fewer than one hundred surviving Russian soldiers charged forward, their faces wrapped in blood soaked rags and their bodies ravaged by the chemical weapons. Their terrifying appearance and fierce determination caused absolute panic among the German ranks, who fled in terror from what they believed were resurrected dead soldiers. This legendary engagement is forever remembered in military history as the Attack of the Dead Men.
