00:02Cranking up for an old-fashioned Sunday drive, the weather perfectly timed for hundreds of
00:08historic cars having their moment in the sun. Autobuffs lining the 70 kilometres from the
00:14beach to the Adelaide Hills, turbo-charging memories of yesteryear.
00:18Cars were cars back in the day, they were stronger, better, yeah they were, a lot better looking cars.
00:24Classic vehicles from all over the country and overseas, winding their way through the
00:28Mount Lofty Ranges to Park Fermet, Birdwood's National Motor Museum, even a
00:35Hollywood car from the 1930s. This was made especially for a guy named Don Lee, he used to
00:40make cars for movie stars, Fatty Arbuckle and that and this was his car, came to
00:44Australia and then was put into the movie Gatsby. The drive up to the Adelaide Hills
00:48gave these old motors quite a workout but with only a few breakdowns it goes to
00:53show they have plenty of life in them.
00:57To enter, vehicles must be at least 30 years old, making 1996 models eligible for the first
01:03time. The oldest entrant, this 122-year-old, De Dionne Bouton.
01:07There's a huge evolution in cars going on right now, the advance of electric cars and it'll
01:13be interesting seeing where they end up in 50 years time.
01:16Celebrating the past with an eye on the future.
