After Sun Wukong wreaked havoc in the Heavenly Palace, he was imprisoned beneath the Five-Finger Mountain. Fearing that Sun Wukong might still pose a threat in the future, the Heavenly Court dispatched Marshal Tianpeng to the mortal realm to eliminate him once and for all. Upon his arrival, Tianpeng crossed paths with a demon hunter named Bao’er and her companions, who made their living by capturing demons and sought to harness Tianpeng’s power to hunt down even more formidable foes. As they traveled together, the group encountered various demons—such as the Yellow Dragon and the Spider Spirit—against whom Tianpeng displayed immense strength. Throughout these battles, he found himself increasingly moved by Bao’er’s kindness and courage. However, Bao’er’s feelings for Tianpeng were not entirely straightforward; she harbored a hidden agenda—in truth, she was the manifestation of Tianpeng’s own signature weapon, the "Supreme Precious Gold-Inlaid Rake." Upon reaching the Five-Finger Mountain, Tianpeng engaged Sun Wukong in combat, but, hopelessly outmatched, he was defeated. As punishment from the Heavenly Court, he was stripped of his divine powers and reduced to a mortal. In his lowest moment, Bao’er remained by his side, ultimately sacrificing herself to save him. Having endured such a life-or-death ordeal, Tianpeng came to understand the meaning of profound, selfless love; he chose to renounce his divine status, remaining in the mortal realm in the form of a pig-demon to act as its protector. Eventually, having left half of his remaining power at Gao Village, he—now known as Zhu Bajie—joined the monk Tang Seng on the journey to the West, all the while cherishing the memory of Bao’er.
