Donald Trump faces a blunt question from a reporter about his decision to campaign in Montana, a state that already leans heavily Republican. Asked why his presence is necessary, Trump argues that Republican turnout drops significantly when he is not on the ballot, raising questions about the GOP’s dependence on his political influence.

Trump says he wants to help Republican candidates protect what the party has built, but his answer puts the spotlight on a key challenge for the GOP: can Republican candidates maintain voter enthusiasm and win elections without Trump leading the ticket?

Watch this exchange as Trump responds to questions about Montana, Republican voter turnout, the GOP’s future, and his continuing influence over the Republican Party ahead of the midterm election

00:00I hope you had a good time. We're now going to Montana. We're doing a big, another big rally. The
00:05people are miles long and it's going to be fantastic. So you'll enjoy it. We're switching planes because of the
00:10small runway and then we get back on the big one. But this is going to be a great rally
00:16also. That was fantastic. What did you think? Did you like it? Pretty good, right? Pretty good. And we have
00:24another big one. So I think these rallies have changed everything. It changed. A lot of things have changed.
00:29I think a lot of people that maybe were having trouble won't have so much trouble. But I feel I
00:35owe it to the Republican Party. I love the party. I love the people in the Republican Party. And I
00:40wasn't going to do this. But, you know, we're going to end up doing about 32, 33 of them. And
00:45we're off to a very good start. I guess it's number eight or so. And I think we're off to
00:51an amazing start. Every one of them is packed. The one we're going to right now is packed. Montana is
00:58just absolutely amazing.
00:59It's absolutely amazing what's going on. This tremendous spirit. We've brought back a spirit. You know, the country is doing
01:06so well, but we have to let people know about it. So thank you all very much.
01:09Mr. President, are you concerned about Abdul El-Sayed's eyes to the Muslim Brotherhood?
01:15Yeah, he's a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. Abdul, or as I call him, Mohammed, Mohammed El-Sayed. He's a
01:22member of the Muslim Brotherhood. He said that years ago. He was a proud member. And you can't have a
01:29member of the Muslim Brotherhood in Congress being on one of our security committees, right?
01:34But he is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. And you have in Mike Rogers, such an amazing candidate. He's
01:42apple pie. He's all apple pie. And that's what our country needs. We don't need the Muslim Brotherhood as a
01:49senator.
01:50Well, President, why Montana? It's a very red state. There are those of you that are saying you're playing defense
01:57as opposed to trying to go to Michigan.
01:59Well, probably because I'm doing Michigan, too, as you know. I'm doing Michigan in a few days. Montana, because we
02:06want to make sure we win. I won. You know, it was one of my best states. I won by
02:0945 points. And really two reasons. Normally, I wouldn't be going, but I like to also pay my respect to
02:19places that I don't have to go.
02:21They're so looking forward to. And I won by many, many, many, many points. Wasn't even a contest. And, you
02:28know, my opponent was didn't represent the people of Montana. Well, and it was it's one of my better states,
02:37maybe my best state.
02:38And so I do it to thank them. I also do it because we have some great people there that
02:44are running. And I want to make sure they win because when I don't run, which, you know, in theory,
02:49I'm not running, but I feel that I'm running when I don't run.
02:53We get 49 percent less turnout when I do run. We win easily. We won every every time I've run.
03:00We've won. And I want to keep it that way. So essentially, I'm saying, please pretend I'm running.
03:05And in a true sense, I am running because I don't want them tearing down what we've built. So we
03:10look forward to Montana. But we're going to Michigan. We're going back to Ohio. We're going back to Texas. We're
03:17doing all the right places. But we have a little time left.
03:24I do. I want to see Pope Leo get well. I hear the prognosis for that type of a problem.
03:31It's a cancer. It's big stuff. Anytime you have cancer.
03:34But the prognosis seems to be good. I've watched. And we just want to wish him our love and our
03:39best wishes. His brother is a friend of mine who's a great. He's a fantastic guy. And his wife. You
03:45know, they're big Trump supporters. They have MAGA all over their house.
03:48And I can say that his brother loves him a lot, loves the Pope a lot. And that's good. That's
03:53good enough for me. But I just want to wish him well. Get better fast. Thank you.
03:58Did you discuss the inflation report today with Kevin Walsh? The market is increasingly betting on a rate increase.
04:04Yeah, we're doing well. Look, we're at 1.7 percent inflation for the last three months.
04:09We inherited a terrible inflation from Biden. The worst in the history of our country.
04:13And we have for the last three months 1.7, 1.8 percent. Very low. We're doing great. We're doing
04:20great.
04:20And Iran will end very shortly. It's going to be over very shortly. And your energy prices will fall very
04:27rapidly, very fast.
04:28And remember, oil is less now under Trump with us taking away the nuclear chance of them destroying, frankly, the
04:37world than it was under Biden.
04:40Oil was higher under Biden than it is under Trump. And I had to make an excursion down to Iran
04:46to take away the nuclear weapon.
04:48And if we've done that, they won't have a nuclear weapon. The war is going to be over very soon.
04:52Thank you very much.
