Thick smoke from widespread forest and land fires is blanketing parts of Indonesia, turning skies orange and sharply reducing visibility. As of October 13, authorities reported 283,270 respiratory illness cases in haze-affected regions since August 18.
The crisis is also affecting neighboring countries, including Singapore and Malaysia. Officials are deploying medical personnel and distributing masks as dangerous air pollution raises concerns about public health.
