Transcript
00:00Under the hood, the strongest engine is the 3-liter V6 in the SQ5.
00:05The normal engines are 2-liter TDI diesel or a 2-liter TFSI, which is also the base
00:11for the plug-in hybrid version here with 295 system output horsepower.
00:16There would also be a stronger one.
00:18This one here at 6.2 seconds in the acceleration figure, also with all-way drive.
00:24Now with the bigger battery in comparison to the older generation, now 21 kilowatt-hours
00:28net and that gives you like some 80-something, 50 miles of pure electric range.
00:36Charging on this side here, on the driver's side, 11 kilowatt AC and takes about 2.5 hours
00:41to charge from 0 to 100.
00:43No DC charging available, but for this kind of battery size, also not really needed.
00:48Then very interesting, the pure EV driving is about 140 kilometers an hour maximum that
00:54you drive only on the electric drivetrain, but that's not very efficient.
00:57So maximum like 90 miles.
01:00But how does the car choose it?
01:02First of all, when you're driving slower, more in the city, it rather prefers the electric
01:06drivetrain.
01:07And then when you're driving more motorway, higher speeds, rather the combustion engine.
01:11That makes sense also in the efficiency sense.
01:14However, if you have set a GPS route, it will even calculate it better and then check out,
01:19ah, how long are we driving, which parts are more like high-speed motorway, which parts
01:24are in the city, and then adapt it for the whole route.
01:28That actually makes sense, but you can also select it yourself and you can also use this
01:32EV button on the interior to say, ah, this moment I want to drive electric and then maybe
01:38later with the combustion engine again when you really flow it out and so on.
01:41And as for the fuel economy, it really depends always how often you recharge and so on.
01:46But if you use both, you know, fuel tank and the battery, we could score some combined
01:51long-term 7 liters on 100 kilometers.
01:54That's about 34 mpg US, 41 mpg UK.
01:58Petrol only, if the battery is depleted, more like about 9 to 10 liters on 100 kilometers,
02:03more like, you know, 26 mpg US, 31 mpg UK.
02:07So it always depends on how are you using it and again, the electric drivetrain makes
02:12sense if you don't drive too fast.
02:14So as soon as you drive like more than 120 kilometers an hour, more like 70 miles an hour,
02:19then it would always make sense to use the combustion engine.
02:22Let's drive the Audi Q5 new generation and here also in the plug-in hybrid model to a 95
02:28horsepower, 6.2 seconds in the acceleration figure.
02:31And we also have the progressive steering here so that we don't have to steer too much, but
02:36it still does something from the input on the wheels.
02:39You're also driving with the Audi internal GPS, for example.
02:44And you can see here, once again, it's very easy to steer this at the same time.
02:49It's also sporty to steer it and we can do some first acceleration.
02:55We can also go here to the dynamic mode.
02:58Let me just see the throttle.
03:02That was 20 to 60.
03:03And now you can see the power of the plug-in hybrid model where even the Liar meter goes
03:08off.
03:08Because what's happening?
03:10Yeah.
03:10Yeah.
03:10The 2-liter TFSI would not be so powerful on its own, but here with the electric motor
03:17as an addition, it directly gets you this electric boost where you have the instant torque.
03:22So this is also why it's so quick from the get-go.
03:26Liar was really a surprise as for that.
03:29Especially in dynamic mode, then the power of both drivetrains is stressed.
03:33However, you can also go to, for example, the efficiency mode.
03:37Then here, the combustion engine goes off immediately because now we are going downhill.
03:42With the brake pedal, I can get recuperation so I can get some energy back to the vehicle.
03:48So that's also good.
03:50And most of the time here in the city surroundings, the vehicle will also stay in the electric mode.
03:55And if I would like to stress that, I can also put the EV button here in the lower part.
04:00But this would also be possible if I really want to decide myself, hey, you know, I want
04:05to drive the electric mode.
04:06Beautiful views here to South Tyrol once again.
04:10Steering is really precise, as I said, and it's a lot of fun to drive this around.
04:15We do have 20-inch wheels on here, as mentioned on the exterior part, together with the optional
04:21air suspension.
04:22That evens out the larger wheel size quite good.
04:25Also, when I'm going here over these manhole covers, it's not uncomfortable at all.
04:30So, the air suspension really gives you a nice soft ride.
04:34At the same time, it also has a sporty feedback that you can steer the car also here in these
04:41tight corners and so on.
04:42That is actually fun to drive it.
04:45So that's the real cool thing.
04:47I really like it.
04:48They have a good mix they found here between the sportiness and the comfort.
04:53And at this moment, since we are all in the lower speed areas, still doing that all electric
05:00and it drives really smooth in the EV mode.
05:03So you can hardly tell this is not an electric vehicle at this moment, you know?
05:10So it kind of feels like they are like all electric Q6 when it's in the plug and hybrid mode
05:15here.
05:15And it's really smooth and fun experience to drive it with the EV mode.
05:20So I just recommend to charge it frequently and then to use this electric mode as often
05:25as possible, especially if you are not at motorway speeds here.
05:30Let's just see how the difference is.
05:32For example, I can also induce the combustion engine here with shifting down, you know?
05:37So let's say I want extra power for overtaking, then in this case, it's deactivated directly
05:45again but I would go to the dynamic mode.
05:48If I want the combustion engine to stay on, then I now have both powertrains at the same
05:54time and accelerate all of the corners.
05:56It's lovely again how agile it is, really tight here in these corners, and you can also accelerate
06:02out very well.
06:03And even if you have both drivetrains combined, you always feel that there is this electric
06:09push happening.
06:10Sound on the engine is not too good, so this is more likable to drive it with the all EV
06:16mode definitely.
06:17But really cool how smooth it is handling.
06:21So this combination of comfort and sportiness is very, very good here in this midsize
06:26segment.
06:27Also, noise insulation, you hardly hear anything from the outside.
06:32We have it here with the insulation package.
06:34So in the front end, we have the laminated glass.
06:38And we were earlier also driving it on the motorway, so we're showing you here the more
06:43interesting parts of driving.
06:45But we've also been driving it like really, really fast, really high speeds on the motorway.
06:51And that was still very, very silent.
06:55So that's also good.
06:56And then, as I said earlier, when you are on a longer route, have also the GPS, especially
07:02then on the motorway, the combustion engine is predominantly active.
07:06Whereas on the city driving, lower speeds, the EV mode is more active.
07:10And this is also the best efficient solution overall.
07:15We are still in a good mood, although dynamic driving or in between.
07:20A little bit heavy maybe.
07:21In between.
07:22Yeah.
07:22Not the best.
07:23As a passenger, of course, you feel that when the car is heavy.
07:26I mean, it's a large SUV and you also have the battery package on plus to it.
07:32So at some point, it also creates some stress then on your passengers.
07:37I got to say that if we are on the balance mode again, let's see.
07:42Yeah.
07:43And the engine is shut off once again, at least when the battery is full enough.
07:48At the moment, it is.
07:49Theoretically, if you only drive in the city, you could also score pure EV numbers that are
07:54higher than 80 kilometers or 50 miles, even more like 100 kilometers, 60 miles, something
07:59like that.
07:59It always depends then on the individual use case.
08:03Yeah.
08:04But I can't stress enough that driving is really one of the special things here of the Audi
08:08Q5.
08:08It's super smooth.
08:10It's sporty.
08:10It's comfortable.
08:11Especially if you go for all these options.
08:14And yeah.
08:14Air suspension.
08:15Not all the competitors here in this segment here offer an air suspension.
08:19There's of course a unique feature that Mercedes GLC is also offering that.
08:23Not on all markets though.
08:25But the Q5, I think it should be available with air suspension on all markets.
08:29Indeed.
08:30And I mean, can just recommend to go for that one.
08:34Unless maybe you want to keep it for 10 or 15 years.
08:38You know, repair costs for an air suspension could always be higher.
08:41Then it might be wise not to take it.
08:43But especially if you go for a lease, the air suspension is of course always a dream to
08:48drive.
08:48And I'll see if you can go for a new ride.
08:48Can you get me started?
08:48You will see it.
08:48Good reason is that the car would be easier for that.
08:48And you see it.
08:48And you'll always be the job.
08:48And I'm going to be a new business.
