00:00From rivals to allies, Melaka's political game.
00:05The Melaka Poles have become a testing ground for political alliances.
00:09Parties are now weighing whether to contest alone, cooperate with former friends turned foes,
00:14or put aside their differences in the pursuit of power.
00:17At the heart of it all is one big question.
00:20Will Melaka have a unity government, or will one coalition secure enough seats to govern on its own?
00:27First, there is UMNO and PAS.
00:30Early developments point to cooperation between the two parties.
00:34PAS President, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, has indicated that discussions with UMNO have been progressing positively.
00:41But any arrangement will ultimately depend on seat allocations, terms agreed, and a nod from both sides.
00:49Then there is Perikatan National, which PAS is part of.
00:53The coalition faces a separate challenge after the Registrar of Society suspended its activities,
00:58potentially preventing it from using its own logo unless the issue is resolved before nomination day.
01:06PAS Secretary General, Datuk Sri Takiyuddin Hassan, has said that Perikatan could instead use that PAS logo,
01:12while Bersatu has said it will contest under its own symbol.
01:15The question is whether Perikatan can maintain a united front if its component parties campaign under different logos.
01:24Finally, there is the possibility of cooperation between Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu,
01:30who are former partners, now on opposing sides.
01:33Bersatu has indicated it is open to electoral pacts.
01:36In Selangor, both sides are negotiating a confidence and supply agreement before the state budget.
01:44Could this offer a model for cooperation in Melaka?
01:47That remains uncertain.
01:49Pakatan Election Director, Datuk Sri Amiruddin Syari, has also indicated
01:53that the coalition is considering contesting all 28 seats beyond its initial target of 18 to 21.
02:01Experts say, while a Pakatan Bersatu electoral pact may not materialise before polling day,
02:07cooperation could instead come after the elections.
02:11Ultimately, Melaka is no longer just about who contests against whom,
02:14but who is willing to work with whom,
02:17and who will have the numbers to form the next state government.
