00:00Kathy is looking down, she's laughing with his blinking and jaw movement.
00:05He's angry and he wants to tell the truth and she didn't know what to do.
00:10She was like a deer in the headlights.
00:11I'm Dr. Lillian Glass and I'm a human behavior expert, body language expert, communication expert.
00:17And I just watched the debate between Kathy Hochul and Blakeman and it was quite insightful.
00:24Let's talk about delivery first.
00:26When we look at and listen to Kathy Hochul, there's a closing off of her throat.
00:31There's a nasality.
00:32Why I set up an entire office and hired the best in the nation.
00:35It's very difficult to listen to and it's very difficult to process what she's saying.
00:41And there was always bringing up somebody else, bringing up Donald Trump all the time,
00:47when it was really about her that she should be talking about.
00:51Trying to mislead the voters.
00:52And I think this is so pathetic.
00:55It is so Trumpian, in fact.
00:57Let's...
00:57Trump, Trump, Trump.
00:58Well, you're the one who says he's the greatest president and you love him.
01:01So those are your own words.
01:02And you blame him for everything that you've done in the state to make us number 15 in economic outlook.
01:07And back to the question from...
01:08I'm sorry to interrupt.
01:09Go ahead.
01:09I think that when you have to bring up President Trump constantly and not talk about what you're going to
01:17do and not say it forcefully enough and be kind of wishy-washy with your tone and be kind of
01:24monotone, that doesn't read well to the public.
01:28Whereas Blakeman was emotional.
01:30He was enthusiastic.
01:31He was saying things with conviction.
01:34And that makes a difference.
01:36People do listen to that.
01:38Or palling around with QAnon conspiracy theorists or election deniers and white supremacists like my opponent does.
01:46He pails around with all these people.
01:48That's why he has no trouble lying in ads.
01:50Shame on you calling me palling around with white supremacists.
01:53Oh.
01:53I never went around with white supremacists, okay?
01:57I'm offended by that.
01:59There was also a lot of pause time where she had to take her time to manufacture an answer, whereas
02:06Blakeman just went right to it.
02:08What do you say to legal experts who say James' statements could jeopardize the investigation as appearing impartial?
02:15Is that for me?
02:16Yes.
02:18Listen, I'm a mom.
02:19I've dropped a daughter off at a college campus.
02:22First of all, she couldn't answer the question.
02:24And you see her smiling, looking in the camera.
02:27There's nothing to smile about in this case.
02:29And she's talking about a mom.
02:31That has nothing to do with what the situation was and what the question was.
02:35She looks at the moderator but then immediately looks at the camera.
02:38And then she smiles and talks about something that has nothing to do with what the question was.
02:44And so that is very questionable in itself and not a very good form of debate.
02:51And she lost a lot of points on that.
02:53You know, that's pretty pathetic to blame me for what happened in a fraternity.
02:57My gosh.
02:58No, I'm blaming you for the investigation afterwards.
03:00You deny that?
03:01You were a trustee there?
03:04The university failed that young woman.
03:07Are you a member of the board?
03:09We're going to move on to our cross-examination and then lightning round.
03:13We have so many.
03:13Blakeman busted her big time when you really look at this.
03:17And she didn't know what to do.
03:19She was like a deer in the headlights.
03:20So she smiled.
03:21And then she looked away and blamed the university.
03:24And he really held her accountable.
03:26And he held her feet to the fire.
03:28And that was very powerful in terms of leadership, in terms of how he came across.
03:34New York State now has the lowest crime rates it's had in modern history.
03:40Now, we're not done yet.
03:42And you're going to hear a lot of, well, a lot of different opinions here this evening.
03:49Well, Kathy Hochul didn't look very governor-like, stumbling like that and looking down and smiling.
03:55She was embarrassed.
03:56And it showed.
03:57And it did not look very professional.
04:00I think it was a real stumble.
04:02I don't think she was prepared for that.
04:04And, again, it did not come off well, especially for somebody who is an incumbent governor.
04:10He promised to cut energy costs.
04:12He promised to cut down grocery costs.
04:15And you know what?
04:15Everything has happened under your friend Donald Trump, who you are the president of the fan club for Donald Trump.
04:22It's absurd how adoring you are of him.
04:24One of the things with Blakeman, with his blinking and jaw movement, he's angry.
04:28And he wants to tell the truth.
04:30And he wants to fight back when she unjustly accuses him.
04:35And when she constantly brings up Trump and saying that he's the biggest fan.
04:42And when Blakeman said, wait a minute, there are things we disagree on.
04:46I may be a fan, but I also have my own agenda here.
04:50And so, again, a lot of times that movement that you're seeing, the jaw movement and the eye blinking, is
04:57not insecurity.
04:58It's anger at what she's saying.
05:00I'm actually not looking at who's relaxed, who's not.
05:03I'm looking at many things.
05:05I'm looking at their facial language.
05:07I'm looking at their body language.
05:09I'm looking at their vocal content.
05:11And I'm looking at their speech content.
05:13So all of these things combined give me a great picture of who I'm looking at and what I'm listening
05:19to.
05:20And what I'm hearing from Blakeman is more authenticity, less being contrived, less being concerned about how they're coming across,
05:31less of the voice constriction.
05:34He's free.
05:35He's speaking it all.
05:37He's telling it like it is.
05:38He's authentic.
05:39And authenticity wins every time in terms of public perception.
