NASA has announced that the Perseverance rover has officially set a new off world record for the total distance driven by an autonomous vehicle. Operating inside Jezero Crater on Mars, the advanced robot has successfully navigated over thirty kilometers of hazardous, rocky terrain without human intervention.

Since its landing in February 2021, Perseverance has been searching for signs of ancient microbial life and collecting vital rock samples. Its advanced AutoNav AI system allows the rover to map Martian terrain in real time, steering past dangerous rocks and steep dunes faster than any previous robot.

This historic achievement beats previous records set by older Mars rovers and lunar vehicles. Scientists behind the mission say this autonomous technology will pave the way for future human exploration of the Red Planet, proving that smart machines can safely navigate distant worlds on their own.
