00:00A unique aspect to Street Fighter the movie is all of our flashback sequences
00:05where we see Ken and Ryu growing up and their past.
00:08Those are all told through traditional hand-drawn 90s style animation.
00:17I was actually born in Japan and spent my childhood between Japan and America.
00:22So Street Fighter was like a bridge between Japanese culture and American culture.
00:25You know, it connected really deeply to manga and anime that I was watching and reading.
00:30As a kid, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Dragon Ball Z.
00:34So our use of animation in this film is really an homage to anime and the true spirit of the
00:39game.
00:42To live is to fight.
00:45It was important to work with an animation team that honored that lineage of animation and storytelling.
00:51I had known of Titmouse for a long time, knowing how much they care about anime
00:55and how much they care about the process of hand-drawn animation.
00:59What we're doing is trying to take his directing language, the scope and the intensity in the live action,
01:05and fusing it within the 90s anime context and style.
01:08Every line, every shape, someone has to draw the same way we would do cell animation.
01:13Just because that gives us a lot more energy.
01:35The character design is based off our actors and the sequence is based off choreography of our action choreographer.
01:43We want Ken and Ryu to see a development in their relationship, but also let the animation speak for itself.
01:50Full display of the powers.
01:52In all the ways we can make them textural and feel emotional.
01:55I just love the animated sequences so much.
01:58There's just this really special magical feeling.
02:01While also respecting the video game.
