On January 2, 1935, a tall young man checked into Room 1046 of the Hotel President in Kansas City as "Roland T. Owen" — with no luggage. Days later he was found beaten and stabbed on the floor, his last whispered word: "Don." A note on the dresser read: "Don, I will be back in fifteen minutes." Who was Don, and what really happened in Room 1046? Unsolved for 90+ years. #unsolvedmystery #truecrime #coldcase

00:00January 1935, Kansas City. A man checks into the finest hotel under a fake name. By sunrise he is dead.
00:10His true identity still unknown. At 1.20 in the morning, Artemis Ogletree rents room 1046. He pays a week
00:20ahead in cash, and asks for a room far up, away from the elevator.
00:25Soon the desk clerk notices something odd. A man called Louisa phones repeatedly for room 1046. Each time, Ogletree's door
00:37is locked from the inside. The bellhop brings towels and finds Ogletree sitting in darkness. One dim lamp lit. Pinned
00:46to the door, a note.
00:48Don, I will be back in 15 minutes. Wait. The next afternoon, a maid unlocks the door. The lamps are
00:58covered with towels. On the bed lies Ogletree, barely conscious, bleeding from deep cuts.
01:06He claims he slipped and fell against the bathtub, but the cuts run far too deep, and the burns around
01:12his throat too strange for a simple fall. At the hospital, he says he came from Los Angeles to meet
01:19someone called Louisa.
01:21Then, just before he dies, he gasps one final word. The Louisa. Detectives find nothing. No wallet, no letters. The
01:32labels are cut from every piece of clothing, as if someone prepared him to be anonymous forever.
01:38Strangers pay for his funeral. Anonymous flowers arrive with one card. Love forever, Louise.
01:46Police chase that name for months and find nobody. Ninety years on, furies remain. A jealous husband. A job gone
01:57wrong. A man who checked in to disappear. Room 1046 keeps its secret.
