00:00Callan's assistant, Enzo, immediately moved to pick up the cufflink, but Callan raised a hand, stopping him.
00:06Vanessa blinked. She quickly bent down, picked it up, then handed it to Callan with flushed cheeks.
00:12Mr. Vitale, you dropped this?
00:13Callan didn't take it right away. Instead, he slowly stepped closer to Vanessa.
00:18I was standing right beside her. As Callan approached, his scent surrounded me.
00:23Fur and citrus. Clean, crisp, with just a hint of warmth. I knew that scent better than anyone.
00:29I'd picked it out myself for our first anniversary. I'd searched store after store, trying countless fragrances before finding this
00:36one.
00:36I pressed my lips together and quietly glanced sideways. Callan was staring at Vanessa like no one else existed.
00:42His eyes held the joy of finding her again, and a trace of hurt that she'd left him.
00:47Callan didn't take it for a long moment, until Vanessa awkwardly whispered,
00:51Mr. Vitale?
00:51Callan seemed to snap back to reality. Then he calmly took it. His fingertips lightly brushed her palm.
00:57Thanks. Vanessa.
00:59His voice almost caught on the name. Vanessa's entire face turned red.
01:03Yes. I'm Vanessa. Mr. Valtteri.
01:07Callan went silent for two seconds, then stared at her face for what felt like forever.
01:12Finally, he reluctantly turned and walked away. Only then did I dare breathe.
01:16My back was damp with cold sweat.
01:18I dropped into my chair and pulled out my phone and searching Callan Vitale.
01:22Headline after headline filled the screen. Callan Vitale. Mafia. Crime families.
01:28I sucked in a sharp breath. So I really dated a mafia boss online and dumped him?
01:33The boss barely visited this company twice a year. Yet the moment he showed up, he noticed an intern.
01:39A young, beautiful intern. My co-workers immediately smelled gossip. They crowded around Vanessa.
01:44I don't know, Mr. Vitaleo. That was literally the first time I've ever met him.
01:49Oh, wait. I just remembered. We actually grew up in the same town. I was pretty popular back then. A
01:55lot of guys had crushes on me.
02:00So maybe...
02:01Vanessa deliberately trailed off.
02:03Maybe he's been looking for you all these years?
02:05Maybe he's been looking for you all these years...
02:05If somebody's only in vain, why is this last year?
