00:01Thousands of people gathered in Lisbon and Porto on Saturday to protest rising
00:06living costs and housing prices. Protesters also took to the streets in
00:11other cities, including Aveiro, Braga and Funchal. They're marching under the
00:16slogan, we can't live like this anymore, chanting about wages in the worsening
00:21housing crisis. Some demonstrators say they have taken inspiration from similar housing crisis
00:39protests in Spain, where the 87-year-old Mari Carmen Abascal sparked nationwide protests.
00:45Her plight brought hundreds of thousands onto the street and ultimately brought forward a
00:50general election after mass demonstrations. Portugal remains one of Europe's least
00:56affordable housing markets. Over the past 10 years, Portuguese house prices have risen by almost 240%.
