00:00Really first question to you. Do women in Bengali cinema do get to be morally complicated in the same way
00:10when we do or female characters still expected to be more sympathetic the way in this film we would like
00:15to know about it?
00:18You mean the as you haven't seen the film so it is not that the woman in this the woman
00:26character in this film I mean the audience is going to be sympathetic towards her there's nothing like that I
00:32mean the story is not evolving around being sympathetic towards the woman.
00:38The story is about of course the woman is the backbone of the story also but it is about a
00:45family so includes her husband her child and herself and their struggle together trying to survive in a very complicated
00:56society.
01:00Dada first of all the meaning the word Bahrupi suggests a lot of meaning so how do how does this
01:07name came up and the story behind it if you could just let us know how.
01:11In Bengal this Bahrupi is a profession and they are we consider that is an art form where this Bahrupi
01:20singers and Bahrupi artists they perform in rural Bengal they tell stories mostly about the you know devotional stories in
01:31a very in a very funny way and that is their nature.
01:35There are there there are there there are there there there there there there are only 108 Baurupi artists there
01:39so that is there and in during the British time so this Baurupi artist used to the you know British
01:49system they used to use this Baurupi artist to find where the revolutionaries are and police the police system in
02:03post independence they use
02:05We have used Bohorupi artists to know where the robbers are, you know, the spying and other things. So that
02:15is the thing.
02:16But in our film, we have used Bohorupi. One is a Bohorupi artist. We have used their songs, their culture,
02:24all these things.
02:25And in a broad way, you know, the bank robbers, they are Bohorupis because they disguise, you know, they do
02:39different kind of looks and everything.
02:46So also the golden daku, the idea of the name Bohorupi, the golden daku brings contradictory images together.
02:53So on that note, gold which represents wealth and aspiration and a daku who exists outside the law. So how
03:01does that come together?
03:04The story is of a gold heist. So these Bohorupis, they go to these jewelry shops to loot, plunder and
03:12rob the jewelry shops.
03:18So that is how the Bohorupis are used in this film. That's why it is called the golden daku.
03:23He was a golden daku because he used to rob jewelry shops.
03:30Goshami, so would like to know about your character, how your character is gonna be seen in this film.
03:37And just if you can tell us about your character.
03:39So I think I am playing the character named Jimli where she is the heart of the film, you know.
03:44She brings joy and there is so much chasing and all the time there is so much tension building up
03:51amongst the audience.
03:52Where Jimli, you know, sets the light-hearted mood for the audience.
03:57Where she, especially in this Bohorupi, the golden daku, she is a mother, she is more mature.
04:04And back in 2024, she was unmarried. So that was a different phase of her life.
04:10And now she is representing the same kind of energy, but in a more matured and poised way.
04:17Bengali cinema has a strong legacy of memorable female characters.
04:21So do you feel today's characters are being offered equally complex roles?
04:25Or are women still too often written around the male protagonist's journey in this way?
04:31No, I think, you know, the situation has changed and the way audience perceive a story has also changed.
04:39And the director's vision towards female protagonists coming into the forefront.
04:45I think that has taken a great shape even in the Bengali film industry.
04:49So nowadays, directors are writing stories where the female, you know, is the main talk about point and the main
04:58talk about subject.
04:59So I think, yeah, I think the entire, this tycoon which goes along with the women that, it revolves around
05:08the men,
05:09but women are just used as a prop in the film. I think that has changed a lot.
05:14Dada, to you, so as a filmmaker and actor, you often explore ordinary people caught in extraordinary circumstances.
05:22So do you believe people are inherently good or bad or does desperation eventually reveal who really they are?
05:31See, you can't, you can't say that a person or a character is good or bad in this particular film,
05:40because there are grey characters.
05:43Because if you take the example of the Bikram Pramanik, my character, who is a bank robber, so he has
05:49his own reason why he is robbing the bank.
05:51So the same thing for the police inspector also, where the Aiyan Banerjee's character, which Jishu Sengupta has portrayed.
05:59If you see his character also, he has his own reason, because the whole system is behind the reason.
06:08Because nowadays, the police department, there are, you know, a lot of reasons.
06:15I mean, if you have to see the film, what is the whole reason behind it?
06:19So, you can't say that one character is grey, I mean, the black, good, you know, paint, just black and
06:26white.
06:28Aditi, so to you, Aalik Bahurupi is also going overseas.
06:32So how was that taken a call for a film to go overseas and how was this the decision taken?
06:40And what are the expectations with the story going overseas this time?
06:44Well, I am very excited that it is going overseas.
06:47It's high time it did, because we have been making a lot of wonderful films in Bengal.
06:53And we want to show our films to a wider audience, why not all over the world, wherever we get
06:57a chance.
06:59So, as the films are doing well, and as the audience is enjoying it, word of mouth also, people are
07:06wanting to see the film,
07:08whether it's abroad or whether it's in the other cities of India as well.
07:14So, we have been approached that if we are willing to let the films go abroad and for a wider
07:21audience.
07:23So, it's USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Sweden, all over, all over, people are coming up wanting to see
07:32the film.
07:33So, it's an exciting time for us.
07:36I would like to thank Homeable Films, who have taken the responsibility of the international distribution,
07:42because they are part of Kantara and KGF.
07:48It is a proud moment for Bengali cinema and Bengali film fraternity.
07:51I also wanted to know about this thing, when you have decided about going overseas, so also we are in
08:01Mumbai,
08:01so also any chances we can see in Hindi as well for the Hindi audience?
08:05Yeah, of course, 23rd, we are releasing the film, the way Buhurupi was released,
08:09and the one week after releasing the film in Bengal.
08:13So, 23rd, we are releasing nationwide as well as overseas, and that is the decision.
08:20They are asking about Hindi.
08:22It won't be in Hindi, but it has subtitles.
08:24So, for a Hindi-speaking audience also, it won't be difficult to understand the film.
08:29And also, my question to all three, so you all have been to Big Boss, you met Saurabh Dada over
08:37there,
08:37and everything was so, the experience, and how was the entire experience over there?
08:43I think it is fantastic always to meet Dada, and he is so much, he is full of energy, and
08:48he is very sporting,
08:49and I find all the contestants in the Big Boss house, they were very sporting to, you know, dance with
08:55us on the hook steps of our songs,
08:57and listen about the story, and they are very excited to watch the film when they are, once they are
09:04evicted.
09:04So, yeah, I think it is a great moment to be on such a huge platform, and standing with Dada
09:11representing Bengal here in Bombay, I think that is a big thing.
09:19I did not go to Big Boss, so I will pass it on to you.
09:22Yeah, it is a great, great moment for us, because I am a great fan of Saurabh Ganguly,
09:28and, you know, within the break time I was discussing, you know, the cricket with Dada, because recently he is
09:40part of the Delhi cricket team also,
09:42so I asked Dada, so that is also there.
09:45Okay, so lastly, before we leave, to what we would like to say to all the fans and viewers for
09:51Bahrupee coming to theatres.
09:53This time energy is more, entertainment is, you know, 200% guaranteed, more thrill, more energy, more, you know, dance,
10:01music, everything is there,
10:02and tough battle between the police and the, you know, bank robber, the Bikram and Aayun, and your puja time,
10:11I mean, you will just enjoy.
