Interpol operation seized 2,800 illegal firearms across Europe and Asia

An Interpol-coordinated operation conducted across 17 countries in Europe and Asia this summer allowed the seizure of 2,823 firearms and over 40,000 pieces of ammunition.

00:02An Interpol operation has highlighted the long-lasting impact of conflict stockpiles on weapons trafficking.
00:09The International Police has cracked down on illicit firearms trafficking across Europe and Central Asia.
00:15The police has seized more than 2,800 illegal firearms, almost 400 hand grenades and explosives, and 40,000 pieces
00:23of ammunition.
00:24The operation, called Trigger X, has been conducted over two weeks in June and July in 17 countries.
00:31Many of the weapons seized were linked to former or ongoing armed conflicts in the Balkans, in Eastern Europe and
00:37Nagorno-Karabakh.
00:38Multiple Soviet-era firearms were also seized in Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
00:44In addition, 152 people were arrested, including 15 individuals subject to Interpol notices.
00:51Operation Trigger X has also led to the seizure in Bulgaria of 20 inflatable dinghies.
00:56Intelligence believed inflatable boats were aimed at smuggling migrants across the English Channel.
