00:00A California charter school is filing for bankruptcy more than a year after state auditors say it engaged in unlawful
00:06and wasteful spending of public funds.
00:09Highland's Community and Technical Schools near Sacramento says it'll stay open and reorganize while it files for bankruptcy.
00:17But the audit has found some eye-popping spending.
00:19Nearly $2 million went to a three-day event at a luxury San Diego hotel.
00:24Another $80,000 went to a Maui conference, and an employee even flew to Paris for $2,600 while her
00:32mother sat on the school's board.
00:34The school also spent more than $33,000 a month on a baseball stadium lease, all while there was no
00:41classes or students there.
00:43Highland's disputes these findings.
00:44The school says bankruptcy will allow it to reorganize while keeping its doors open.
