00:00Welcome him in, Jason Lloyd on the Wise Heart Right, We Make It Right, Cocoa Right Hotline.
00:03He is a calmness for The Athletic.
00:05Hello, Jason.
00:06Good morning, boys.
00:07What's your problem with Jim Tomey, man?
00:09That was my homie.
00:10Oh, God.
00:12What?
00:12What?
00:14I mean, Twitter, I said I have a lot of respect for him.
00:17Twitter is not the exact fertile soil for him.
00:20Yeah, then you went and said to take the statue down.
00:22I got a lot of respect for this guy.
00:23Get rid of the statue.
00:25Yeah, no, I did not say that.
00:26You know, a statue is an ultimate show of respect.
00:31So when you say you have a lot of respect, you really don't because you want to get rid of
00:34a statue.
00:35No, never said that.
00:37Good try.
00:37No, like, listen, the only thing, the only point I was trying to make was, of course, he's rooting for
00:42the White Sox.
00:43I get that he works there.
00:44I get the kid being drafted there.
00:46I get all of that.
00:47The only point was, just put a gray shirt on, man.
00:50That's all.
00:51Because it just felt disrespectful to the organization that drafted you.
00:55That did give you a statue.
00:56And whose cap you wear in the Hall of Fame.
00:58That's it.
00:59That's all it was.
01:00But, you know, Twitter's going to Twitter, and that's fine.
01:03There were a lot of people who agreed with you, though.
01:06There were a lot of people who agreed with you.
01:09Of course, because I'm right.
01:11It's not a big deal either way.
01:13But, like, it just rubbed me wrong in the moment.
01:17It's like, man, just put on a gray shirt.
01:18Put on a brown shirt.
01:19That's all.
01:20You know the camera's going to find you.
01:21You know how this goes.
01:24Just for the optics of it.
01:25Root for the White Sox.
01:26Of course, he's rooting for the White Sox.
01:28Just for the respect of the organization that drafted you and gave you a statue.
01:32That's all.
01:33Really, it's not a big deal either way.
01:35I know his wife got upset and everything.
01:37Whatever.
01:39He's still beloved here.
01:40He should be beloved here.
01:42He did a lot of good things for you.
01:43Don't walk it back now.
01:44Listen to him walking back.
01:46Listen to Tough Talking Jason.
01:48I'm not walking anything back.
01:50Sounds like you're walking it back.
01:51And you called their stadium Bleepy.
01:55Oh, it is.
01:56Backstab by that 100%.
01:57Have you been there?
01:58He'll stand on business for that one.
01:59I drove by it while Lima was taking pictures because I was like, Lima, this is my first
02:03time in Chicago.
02:04I have to focus on the roads.
02:05You take the pictures.
02:06That's the best part of that stadium is out there on the highway.
02:09It's a true story.
02:10What is it, 55?
02:11It is right off the highway.
02:12I can't remember which one.
02:13Lima took a picture of the stadium.
02:15And I think I posted it.
02:17And there were probably people going, yeah, don't get off the highway there.
02:20And I was like, I don't know nothing about it.
02:21That's okay.
02:23Then one guy wanted us to get on the L train and go buy that stadium.
02:25And Lima's like, that's a bad idea.
02:26We're getting off here.
02:28I took the L.
02:29When I was covering games there, I took the L in and out of there.
02:32Interesting.
02:34All right, Lima, you want to ask this man some questions?
02:36Really trying to save money that much.
02:39Anyway, all right, Jason.
02:40So here's the thing about that stadium is it was electric,
02:45especially when they were attempting to touch up Espino in the opening inning.
02:51They get a run across the board.
02:53It looks like it just could be the end of the Guardian season.
02:56Then a funny thing happened in the way to that supposed sweep.
03:00We end up winning the game.
03:02And it's a feel good for almost everybody with the exception of Gattis, right?
03:06I mean, almost everybody got on the board in one way or another.
03:10So is that the type of game that can galvanize a team,
03:12or are we just staving off execution by a day?
03:17No, I don't think it's staving off execution.
03:19You know, when the schedule was first announced,
03:21I thought the Guardians had the advantage by the staggered off days
03:25because it allows you to throw Messick and Williams in four of the five games.
03:28But you have to get to that point for it to be the advantage.
03:32So really, to this point, the advantage has been with the White Sox
03:35because all the off days has allowed them to stagger their relievers
03:38and really go heavy usage on some of these guys.
03:40This is the first day where it's sort of a stress test for them now.
03:44You know, Hagan Smith on consecutive days.
03:46Schultz threw a lot of pitches yesterday.
03:48He's probably down.
03:49Taylor's thrown a ton of pitchers, but he's rested.
03:52So you're probably going to get a heavy dose of him today.
03:55So this is the first game of the series where it kind of feels like now the off days
04:00will be an advantage to Cleveland, but they had to get it to this point.
04:03And certainly, you know, I didn't think they would be down 2-1, you know,
04:06going into a game four.
04:08But this was always the security blanket for them was to have both of their aces
04:12available in 80% of the games.
04:14Now, I mean, if you're the White Sox, you feel confident
04:16because you've already beaten both of those guys.
04:18Or you've won the games that they started on the road.
04:20So if you're Chicago, you should feel good about where you are.
04:23But if you're Cleveland, yeah, man.
04:25Like, you look at this and go, all right, we're in this.
04:27We've got our two aces going now in four and five.
04:29There's no reason we can't still win this thing.
04:32You know, it's funny because when we were leaving the press box after game two
04:36was talking to Zach Amisel, and he pulled up the, you know,
04:40some of the advanced numbers and everything.
04:42And the Guardians had, I can't remember now,
04:44it was like six of the top eight hard-hit balls in game two.
04:47And nobody wants to hear this after a loss.
04:49But, you know, we're looking at that going, well,
04:51eventually that should even out and that should turn
04:54and those should start to drop and you should start scoring runs.
04:57The problem, obviously, in a short series is,
04:59is there enough time for that to turn?
05:02And then thankfully, you know, yesterday was enough time.
05:04And what's funny was the big hit was a slow dribbler down the first baseline
05:08by Adele that clears the bases.
05:10So, yeah, I don't think they're out of this by any means.
05:13I don't think that this is just a stay of execution by a day
05:15because I think this is the first time where the off days finally now play
05:20to the Guardians' advantage.
05:22Jason, was it a different approach at the plate yesterday?
05:25I know they got a little more aggressive at the end of game two,
05:28a little too late, but they did have some hard-hit balls then.
05:32Then they started out with hard-hit balls yesterday.
05:34And then, you know, you add to the fact that you draw 10 walks in a balk.
05:38So that always helps too.
05:40But was there anything different that you saw
05:41or was it just some luck from the baseball gods?
05:45It was, like I said, it was hard hits that were finally falling a little bit.
05:49They hit the ball hard in game two, not so much game one.
05:51But game two, they hit the ball hard.
05:53They didn't have a lot to show for it.
05:55Yesterday, early, they hit the ball hard.
05:57Didn't have a lot to show for it.
05:59And then, like I said, the dribbler from Adele,
06:01that's the baseball gods evening out is it's not a hard-hit ball.
06:05It's just perfectly placed down into the corner
06:07and it clears the bases and Joe Speed gets him to third.
06:11So, yeah.
06:14Today, like you said, everyone outside of Gattis.
06:17Can you hear me?
06:17I'm in a bad spot.
06:18Yeah, you were in a bad spot.
06:19All right.
06:20Now you're there again.
06:21Go ahead.
06:22All right.
06:22I don't know where I cut out.
06:24But the pitching obviously was great yesterday except for Gattis.
06:27You have to be encouraged by that.
06:30And I think, you know, playing on back-to-back days,
06:33it's momentum for Cleveland after they won yesterday.
06:37We got Jason Lloyd joining us here on the Wise Heart Right.
06:40We make it right.
06:41Call Kyle Right hotline.
06:42Do you subscribe to the Jose Ramirez struggles in the postseason stuff?
06:49This year, I think he gets a break because of what he's dealing with health-wise.
06:54If he was in a bigger market, he would be destroyed for some of his postseason numbers.
06:58If he was in a bigger market, he'd have more help around him.
07:01Well, that's true.
07:02Yeah.
07:05And now he broke up.
07:08Prolific Hall of Fame hitter in the postseason.
07:10So I'm just saying, if he has those numbers in the postseason in a bigger market,
07:15he would be flamed.
07:16But because he's taken less money, because he has stayed,
07:19because people love him so much, he gets a pass.
07:21That's just the reality of it.
07:22I'm not killing him for it.
07:23That's just the reality of it.
07:24I'm glad he stayed.
07:25I'm glad that he took the discounts that he did.
07:28I'm glad that they have him.
07:29I'm glad that he's not playing in San Diego or somewhere else.
07:32But if he put up the numbers that he puts up in Chicago or New York, they'd destroy him.
07:37But again, this year, I think there's a pass.
07:39Like, the risk thing is real.
07:41And I was thrilled to see the production that he had yesterday.
07:48I know, obviously, there was a big issue made.
07:52Either way, people certainly took whichever side on who the starter was.
07:57So Tanner Bybee, are we going to see him in this series?
08:00Because obviously, if you win, we are going to see him in the ALCS, right?
08:05Yeah, I think I had no issue with how they did it yesterday.
08:08I know Espino gave up the run.
08:10But, you know, you're looking at it.
08:11I was surprised that it was Foster Griffin and not Cantillo.
08:14I think a lot of people were surprised by that.
08:16But, you know, the justification for doing it is Cantillo threw 15 scoreless innings
08:20in his last three outings in this role.
08:23So I thought it would be Cantillo coming in next.
08:26You know, I didn't have a problem with skipping Bybee.
08:29Bybee's a good pitcher having a bad year.
08:31I firmly believe that.
08:33People who scream, you paid him, he was your opening day starter,
08:36why aren't you using him?
08:37They didn't pay a lot of attention to some of the outings that he had this year.
08:41So he will have a role, I think, if they win this series in advance.
08:46You'll have to use more arms.
08:48It's just the benefit of a short series and all the off days in this series
08:52that allows them to structure it this way.
08:55But if they advance, he'll have a role in the ALCS, I would have to believe.
08:59What's the most overrated thing you've heard about the Guardians in the postseason this year?
09:04The most overrated thing?
09:05Yeah, what's the thing that you've heard fans or even, you know, radio show hosts
09:09or co-hosts or whatever say that you don't, you just, you can't stand in the postseason?
09:15I mean, it would have been yesterday and all the talk about Bybee starting that game, I guess.
09:20Because I can't, nothing else is coming to mind.
09:23Right.
09:24Am I missing something?
09:26No.
09:26I'm just asking.
09:27That was a question.
09:28Yeah, I don't know.
09:30I don't know if there was some glaring topic I wasn't thinking of in the moment.
09:33No.
09:34Other than Jim told me statue and you pussyfooting around the situation and wanting to walk it back.
09:39I walked nothing back.
09:41Okay.
09:42Well, you know what?
09:42I'm going to get all the nasty things you say about me and then I'm going to have Liz reach
09:45out
09:46and have you walk it back.
09:48I mean, I would do that with you, but Alessia would agree with you.
09:52All right, Jason, let's move to the Cleveland Browns.
09:56It's a pretty big football game this week.
09:58Aaron Schatz says statistically they're one of the worst 3-1 teams since they've been tracking
10:03this stuff over the last 25 years.
10:04How good are the Cleveland Browns?
10:08I mean, they're good at the 3-1 and I'm not going to disparage their...
10:12That is some analysis, friends.
10:14Yeah.
10:15Well, listen, I'm not going to disparage their 3-1.
10:20What did Denny Green say?
10:22You are what your record is.
10:23That's Denny Green 1.
10:24That was my favorite.
10:25Am I picking them to make the playoffs?
10:28No.
10:28I'm still not picking them to make...
10:30I still don't think they're a playoff team.
10:31Okay.
10:32I do think that there's some course correction ahead.
10:35But, you know, listen, they get...
10:38I was as hard on Deshaun as anybody.
10:40He's played well enough for them to be 3-1.
10:42He's made enough plays in fourth quarter moments to win these games.
10:46And he gets all the credit for that.
10:47So I'm not going to disparage that.
10:49And at the same time, I don't think it was the playoff team.
10:51What's wrong with that?
10:54Jason Lloyd joining us on the show.
10:56Well, so you think the other shoe's going to drop?
10:59When does it drop?
11:01I don't know.
11:02They could win this week.
11:03I think weather's going to be a factor in the second half.
11:05That's the issue here, Jason.
11:08This is why I think that this game is bigger than the Ravens game.
11:11The Ravens are a measuring stick.
11:12It's like, okay, what do you do against the big boys?
11:14And then, hey, if you play well, even if you don't win, you're like, hey, let's...
11:18We can get some things figured out.
11:19We're cooking with gas here.
11:20But, you know, you lose to the Jets.
11:22The Jets are seen as a dead team walk-in.
11:25And then all of a sudden, you'd be 3-3 after the Ravens game.
11:27Like that?
11:28No-oh.
11:29Like that.
11:29Then you're starting to feel that backslide.
11:31Exactly.
11:33Yeah.
11:33Yeah.
11:33So, yeah.
11:34I mean...
11:36What are they?
11:36A point-and-a-half dog on the road?
11:39I thought it was 2-and-a-half.
11:41Is it 2-and-a-half?
11:42I thought it was last time I looked.
11:44Okay.
11:45I mean, when I picked them to win this game, I haven't picked them to win any games yet
11:49this year.
11:50I don't know if I'd pick them to win.
11:51I think it'll be close.
11:52I do think weather's going to be a factor in the second half.
11:55And then ball security comes into play.
11:57You know, Deshaun hasn't turned the ball over a lot this year.
12:01You know, if it starts raining, you've got to start throwing it.
12:03What happens then?
12:05So, I agree with what you just said, though.
12:07Like, this is sort of a pivot game for them.
12:09If you win and you go up 4-and-1, you know, I think then you really start having the
12:15playoff
12:15discussion and can this team be a wild-card contender or, heck, even win the division?
12:20You lose this game, you're probably staring at 3-and-3 coming off Baltimore.
12:24Although, let's wait and see.
12:25I assume Lamar's back by then.
12:27I assume.
12:28Right?
12:29Yeah.
12:29I don't know, man.
12:31It's been a weird year with injuries.
12:33So, it doesn't take much.
12:37John Calavita bought a Browns jacket.
12:42He's giving up on the Eagles, he says, and he wants to be a Browns fan.
12:47Did I say that right on?
12:48I want to make sure I say it right this time.
12:49Because I'm serious.
12:50Okay.
12:50He says he's giving up on the Eagles.
12:53He's renouncing his Eagles fandom, and he wants to be a Browns fan.
12:57Is he allowed to be a Browns fan, Jason?
13:00I mean, that's kind of nuts.
13:02But, yeah.
13:03I mean, why wouldn't he be?
13:05I mean, he's trading in a, I don't know, should I anger everyone?
13:10Yeah, go ahead.
13:11Why not?
13:13I mean, he's trading in a Mercedes for a used Honda.
13:19If you look at the way that the organizations have been running.
13:22A used what?
13:22Your phone broke out again.
13:24I said he's trading in a Mercedes for a used, I don't know, should I name another?
13:29No, don't do that.
13:30Actually, don't.
13:32He used the phone from Green Acres to say these nasty things.
13:36No, I'm driving through Baghdad right now.
13:38All this construction on 90, it's ridiculous.
13:41Yeah, well.
13:43What are you going to do?
13:43No, you got four more years of it.
13:45Oh, my.
13:46It's ridiculous.
13:47How is there not a death every day on the highway here?
13:50Okay.
13:51We're moving on.
13:53Jason Lloyd from The Athletic.
13:54Reckless speculation.
13:56Joining us on the show.
13:58I'm not killing anybody.
13:59I'm just saying.
14:01Oh, my God.
14:01Shut up.
14:02Shut up, Jason.
14:04Shut up.
14:04For the love of God.
14:05The laser nuts.
14:06Okay.
14:07All right.
14:07Goodbye.
14:08Get off the phone.
14:09Get off the phone.
14:10Goodbye.
14:12Goodbye.
14:13Goodbye.
14:13Jason Lloyd.
14:14The Athletic.
14:17He gave us plenty to think about, didn't he?
14:22It seemed like he's.
14:25Stupid.
14:29Dumb.
14:29I was going to talk about, you know, some more optimism in the Guardians.
14:32But, yeah, maybe that too.
14:33All right.
14:35Are we back on track?
14:36Are we winning this series now?
14:38And do we need to just shut up about Jose Ramirez in the postseason now?
14:42Or am I in denial?
14:43I want to know.
14:44Seriously, from you.
14:45Ken Carman.
14:45Anthony Lima.
14:46We'll see you next time of that in five minutes on the fan.
14:46We'll see you next time of that in five minutes on the fan.
