00:30My home is very modern, minimalist, with a European twist.
00:34I love the natural light and the big windows.
00:38Joy believes her personally curated style will bring her straight-up glory.
00:42I think my home is unique. I think it's eclectic.
00:45You don't have to have a space that you would find on social media.
00:48You can really do something that reflects who you are.
00:50While Naveed trusts his polished and crisp design will clean house.
00:55It's very bright. It's very welcoming.
00:57We were aiming for a luxurious home.
01:00But at the same time, not over the top.
01:02When the dust settles, only one neighbour will bag the bragging rights
01:05and claim the crown as top of the block.
01:10For homeowners in this happening city neighbourhood,
01:13being extra isn't a goal. It's a way of life.
01:16With quick eyes and quick calls,
01:17these judges cut through the noise and speak facts.
01:21Real estate agent Sasha.
01:23You can expect me to be honest with my judging.
01:26I come with a pretty smile, but if I don't like it, you're going to know.
01:29And former competitors and winning duo, Karen and Adam.
01:33I'm just kind of tapping into that voyeuristic side of myself.
01:36I want to snoop. I want to see what's happening.
01:37I don't want to see any shoddy craftsmanship.
01:40Everything's got to be crisp.
01:41Paint lines tight, no gaps.
01:43Crisp.
01:44The rules of this competition are simple.
01:46The combination of design, function, and added value
01:49must give the winner the edge over the other houses.
01:52It's very bland.
01:53I got hospital vibes in here.
01:54What?
01:55Time to find out whose home is top dog.
02:01My husband and I put a lot in this home,
02:03and it's a combination and marriage
02:06of what we would love to see in a home,
02:08but also an expression of us.
02:12It has a very welcoming and warm feel.
02:15Every piece that's been chosen is really hand-selected.
02:20We didn't want to go with, you know, a lot of trendy stuff.
02:23Oh, I really hope the judges love my pantry as much as I do.
02:26We decided to elevate the living space
02:27just to create some sort of illusion of separation,
02:31even though it's a full, open concept.
02:33Okay, I think it looks perfect.
02:35So I wanted it to be comfortable and spacious.
02:40I think my house could be top of the block.
02:42Of course I do.
02:43Bring it on.
02:44Let's go.
02:48Keep that same energy, Ruba,
02:50because the judges are in the building,
02:52and sugarcoating is not on their menu.
02:55Oh, I'm a little bit nervous.
02:57Okay, wow.
02:59How different and unique is this?
03:01A lot.
03:01And that window is huge.
03:03Okay, first impressions are good.
03:05Okay.
03:06Oh, this is interesting.
03:08Nice storage.
03:09We have a closet and lots of open space.
03:12Thank you, judges.
03:14Hey.
03:15Oh, I like.
03:16Instead of a sunken in room, we have an elevated room.
03:20It's got a cool vibe.
03:21I'm not digging this space.
03:23There's not a ton of color.
03:24It's grays and blacks.
03:26It's a little too simple, a little too boring.
03:29Ooh, Karen.
03:30No.
03:31The sofa looks super comfy, but it just feels almost like too long,
03:34and the coffee table's kind of in the middle of the sofa.
03:37I think you're getting a lot of color with those books,
03:40and I think that's intentional.
03:41Or intentionally awkward, like the random yoga pose you'd need to reach the bottom shelf.
03:46It's rare that we see these floor-to-ceiling windows create a whole wall,
03:50and I think that's a value-add in this home,
03:52because it's giving you the illusion of extra square footage.
03:55Sasha singing my tune and speaking my language.
03:58But I'm so bored with this paneling.
04:02Uh-oh.
04:02Sasha's speaking in a different language now.
04:04Translation, not impressed.
04:07It's definitely a trend.
04:08That's like one of my favorite pieces there.
04:10I guess this is the kitchen.
04:12Eating area.
04:12This is where you would eat with your family.
04:14We never eat there.
04:15I just really wanted a dining table.
04:18We have this very unique, linear, like, picture.
04:22And all the black seems to be, like, this nice, matte black.
04:25It's really sleek, and it's really sexy.
04:27Sleek and sexy, I'll take it.
04:30And the ducks.
04:31I bet you should name these ducks.
04:33I have named these ducks.
04:34One of them is Stavros, because he looks like he came from Greece.
04:37And the other one is Steve.
04:39Feather smooth.
04:40Things are just ducky again.
04:42They're cute.
04:43It's got, like, little flip-flops.
04:44It's got little sandals.
04:45They're cute.
04:46And that one has clown shoes.
04:49This is a beautiful waterfall island, matching the backsplash.
04:52You could have put such a cool, unique pendant lights or something here.
04:56Speaking of trendy.
04:58The other thing, I hate seeing it, is the kitchen's not going to the ceiling.
05:02All that's going to do is collect dust.
05:05I don't mind the style of the cabinetry, but it looks a little plasticky.
05:11Plasticky.
05:12Ooh.
05:13It is made of wood, Adam.
05:15This kitchen is exceptionally well thought out.
05:18Lots of warmth built into it.
05:19And we cannot leave alone.
05:21This pantry.
05:23This is where I hide my chips.
05:25You have plugs and countertops, so you can have to tuck away your appliances in here.
05:29It adds a lot of value.
05:31I keep hearing the word value.
05:32This makes me feel good.
05:34And it's hidden with a nice little kind of barn door.
05:37I still feel it's very trendy.
05:38Okay, here comes Adam with the trendy and the panels.
05:41That's okay.
05:41I could take it.
05:42The next most exciting feature is the coffee station.
05:46If you're entertaining outside, like, it's just super functional.
05:50Wow.
05:51Wow.
05:52What?
05:53This is amazing.
05:54Look at these ceilings.
05:56It feels like you're, like, not even in the basement.
05:58The door's right there.
06:00Big window.
06:01It's such a value.
06:02Add more value.
06:04I do like this built-in feature, but again, floor to ceiling.
06:06I think they missed opportunity.
06:07I'm assuming that is the TV.
06:11They're going to be surprised.
06:13No way.
06:15Wait a second.
06:16What is going on?
06:22Ruba.
06:23Wow.
06:24Wait a second.
06:25What is going on?
06:26We have three TVs.
06:28No way.
06:28This is your favorite sports team, and then your closer of the two.
06:32I love the pocket, the sliding effect.
06:34I think that's fantastic.
06:35This texture thing, again, I think it's something that is...
06:39He's going to say trendy.
06:42Trendy.
06:42Oh, there you go.
06:43But I feel like it's trending with the room.
06:45Like, it's a fun room.
06:46It can afford to have some spunky elements, because now I'm like, okay, Ruba.
06:51Let's have some fun.
06:52It feels cozy.
06:54It feels like a home.
06:55It feels lived in, which is great.
06:56I'm actually kind of sad to leave.
06:58Well, thank you, judges.
06:58I feel really good about a lot of their critique.
07:02I just wish they liked my kitchen more.
07:07Well, not everything can be a chef's kiss.
07:09Up next, Joy's going under the judging broiler.
07:13With this space, I really wanted it to feel like an oasis, like an escape.
07:17Oh, my God, I can't believe I'm steaming my bed.
07:21For me, it's like, no, I've got my own eye, and I want it to feel and look like what
07:25I see in my head.
07:26I want it color.
07:27I want it interest.
07:28I want it to bring a sense of, like, the old world charm, and at the same time, bring my
07:33own flavor.
07:33Yay.
07:34I love the living room.
07:35I feel like it's clearly the heart of the home.
07:37It's a cozy, kind of unique space.
07:40I feel really excited.
07:42A little apprehensive, a little nervous, but I feel really confident as well about my home.
07:46So, I'm excited to see how this unfolds.
07:51All right, guys.
07:52Wow, okay.
07:53This home already has so much character.
07:55I love the pop of color on that door.
07:57Yellow door for an owner named Joy makes sense.
08:00It does make sense.
08:02Do you guys have a basketball?
08:03I don't know.
08:03How do you even play basketball here?
08:05It doesn't really seem functional.
08:06It's not.
08:07I had to move it there for neighbors.
08:09Neighbors are the worst, especially the nosy ones who show up with full-on opinions.
08:14Wow.
08:16Really loving this dusty rose on the wall and the wallpaper.
08:20This has got a lot of character for sure.
08:23And a super sunken in living room.
08:25That sunken living room is the reason why I was the only person to put an offer on that house.
08:29This is unique, but I'm not crazy about this.
08:32It's too much depth for me.
08:33It just feels too open.
08:35Okay, that's Karen's opinion.
08:36I think it's kind of cool.
08:37I like it.
08:39Instantly, I'm getting kind of like a jungle design and feel, but it works for the space
08:43because it's giving, you know...
08:44Church vibes.
08:45I don't know about church vibes, but it's complementing the jungle feel.
08:49I don't know about jungle.
08:50I don't like that comment.
08:51Can we talk about the function?
08:52We have no coat closet.
08:55I can't picture coming in here with kids.
08:57I'd be like, worried that they're going to fall.
08:59Where are we going to put our shoes?
09:00Are my shoes going to fall and hit someone's head?
09:02I agree with you, Sasha.
09:04These stairs are steep every day.
09:05I don't know.
09:07Girl, it's a workout.
09:08Okay.
09:09Ooh, more pink.
09:11Okay.
09:11I like the continuity of the pink down to this level.
09:14I do like that she extended this window.
09:16It's offering a lot of natural light, but I'm just wondering, how do you close it?
09:21You don't close it.
09:22It's either open or it's closed.
09:24Touché, Joy.
09:25And how else would the neighbors peep inside?
09:28She's probably down here a lot, but in terms of value add, she sacrificed some square footage
09:33on the main floor.
09:34Unfortunately, I think she lost some value.
09:36Yeah, now I'm feeling a little, like, uncertain.
09:39Oh, this is great.
09:41Love this.
09:42Wow.
09:44I think it's cool that we have these double doors separating this space.
09:48Original hardware.
09:48Yes.
09:49Judges, you just got duped.
09:51I actually added those in, and I found that old-looking hardware.
09:55I am digging the little detail of wallpaper here.
09:59I see Joy within this space.
10:01Thanks, Karen.
10:02I see Joy in my space, too.
10:04I love the African and Black cultural elements.
10:08I'm loving finding out who she is as we walk through this house.
10:12I really appreciate that the judges are seeing what I've put into the house, like the heart,
10:17the love.
10:17I like a house with a kitchen at the back.
10:19We have this huge island.
10:21Double waterfall.
10:22But I'm not a fan of this countertop or the backsplash.
10:25It's kind of industrial.
10:26Not sure I agree with you here, Adam.
10:28This is not Joy from that, right?
10:31Like, it's very bland.
10:32I got hospital vibes in here.
10:34Oh, my gosh.
10:34Adam's getting church in the front and hospital in the back.
10:37I don't know what's happening.
10:38I disagree.
10:39What?
10:40I actually, I like this space.
10:41Yes, Karen.
10:43I feel like it's practical, and I think the stainless steel countertop, I like.
10:46I don't know.
10:47I guess because over time, they have, like, little divots and scratches.
10:50It creates some character.
10:51That's it.
10:51Like, I like the patina of the stainless steel.
10:54I don't know if I love the function of this kitchen.
10:56I'm going to be honest.
10:56We walk right in.
10:57We're seeing the fridge.
10:59It's so far from the stove.
11:00And then, like, sink.
11:01Where are you at?
11:02I disagree.
11:03I am, like, a big cook, and I'm in there all the time.
11:06I feel like I'm losing Sasha here.
11:08Got to get her back.
11:10Wow.
11:11This is nice.
11:12See, this is what I'm talking about.
11:18Wow.
11:19This is nice.
11:21See, this is what I'm talking about.
11:22Love the wallpaper.
11:24This is a bit more neutral compared to downstairs.
11:26I'm seeing more softer colors.
11:28I love the bedding.
11:29Thanks, Karen.
11:30I love my bedding, too.
11:31It's just very soothing and relaxing.
11:33She's brought that tropical feel back up here.
11:35Somehow, she just brings her own style, and it just works.
11:38Yeah, every room is different.
11:40Like, every room has its own little flavor.
11:42Yay, you got it.
11:44Every room does have its own little flavor.
11:45Ooh, this is going to be a tough one, guys.
11:47Now the yellow door makes sense.
11:49It's just everywhere I go, it's just a pop of color,
11:51and I'm really loving it.
11:54I don't know.
11:54I was feeling really strong,
11:55and now I'm feeling kind of shaky.
12:00Next up, David is jumping in the judging mosh pit,
12:04and it's very likely he'll get shook, too.
12:06I'm a builder by background, but it's my first family home,
12:10so we put a lot of attention into details,
12:14and we really try to make it home.
12:17It's more traditional and timeless on the exterior,
12:21but on the inside is more modern, contemporary feel,
12:26which is more comfortable.
12:28I love how this house gets a lot of light,
12:31and the ceilings are very high.
12:34I think that's the secret weapon.
12:37Being judged, it's exciting,
12:40and it makes me nervous at the same time,
12:42so fingers crossed.
12:44I hope I win.
12:47Let's do this.
12:48Bring it on, judges.
12:53Looks like a new custom build.
12:55Oh, I love the burgundy brick.
12:57The cast-on's nice, too.
12:59So far, so good.
13:03Oh, okay.
13:04A little tight right here.
13:05A little tight, yeah.
13:06I like the nice, light oak flooring.
13:09Thank you for the compliments, Sasha.
13:11Welcome to my house.
13:12Nice trying, David,
13:13but pleasantries won't get you anywhere with these judges,
13:16and besides, they can't hear you.
13:18I don't know if I love this.
13:20I feel like you're kind of trapped,
13:21so if you're entertaining or having guests over,
13:23there's very limited space here.
13:24The front entrance might be a little tight,
13:27but it's got heated floors.
13:29Oh, good.
13:31Heated floors.
13:31Guests will have warm feet, but no elbow room.
13:34Okay.
13:35We got to talk about this porcelain fireplace,
13:39floor to ceiling.
13:39This is gorgeous.
13:40Love the color.
13:41Love that it's a bit of a more modern mix,
13:43but area rug is tiny,
13:45and I think the coffee table could be a bit bigger.
13:48The proportions seem off to me.
13:49Feels like condo-sized furniture.
13:51Oh, that was harsh.
13:53Looks like it's kind of like a co-dining,
13:57family living, open area.
14:00We have this office space with this wall unit,
14:03almost like a library.
14:04It's nice.
14:05That's right.
14:06This space is having an identity crisis.
14:08It's a combo of a dining room,
14:10an office, and a living room,
14:12and it just doesn't know what it wants.
14:14Karen, please.
14:16You're killing me here.
14:17This floor to ceiling, wine rack.
14:21It's almost like art.
14:23I think the home itself is built beautifully.
14:25I really do like this light fixture.
14:27It's very different.
14:28I love that the colors are complementary of the fireplace
14:31and also the built-ins back here.
14:33I like Karen.
14:34Karen gets it.
14:36All right.
14:37Okay.
14:37Very modern feel.
14:38Very neutral.
14:40Vibe is modern,
14:41but the material, not completely modern.
14:44I do love the color.
14:45I think the kitchen is actually really nicely done.
14:48I can feel the value in this kitchen.
14:50That hardware is stunning.
14:51There's a lot of storage.
14:53We have the high-end appliances.
14:55This hood range looks great,
14:56but I think they could have gone a bit bolder
14:58and done something a bit different.
14:59What does bold even mean?
15:01What are you talking about, Karen?
15:02It's like the cabinets could have been a different color
15:04or something, something to draw the eye.
15:06The kitchen is stunning.
15:07I'm confident about that.
15:09Okay, we're officially in, I would say, the family room.
15:11Again, we're seeing that floor-to-ceiling design.
15:14That wall unit is beautiful.
15:16I love the pot lights, giving that highlight look.
15:19It's all about the built-ins.
15:21It feels like a luxury hotel.
15:22I could just see myself with a nice TV watching a movie
15:25and just feeling really cozy.
15:26Is my house actually Vin and Karen over?
15:28Maybe.
15:31Okay.
15:32Hey.
15:33It's like we have some personality in the fireplace,
15:35some seashells.
15:37Yeah.
15:38Like you feel you're on a beach or something.
15:41Oh, I didn't even notice that.
15:43I didn't even see.
15:44I didn't even see this.
15:46It's like an aquarium with fire.
15:50Am I getting the feeling Adam doesn't like my fireplace?
15:54Ding, ding.
15:55Winner, winner.
15:55Chicken dinner.
15:56I think they could have done a bigger bed.
15:59Like it was way too close.
16:01Like you need to be able to breathe.
16:02Oh, you like staying close.
16:05Oh.
16:06Okay.
16:07I like that ooh.
16:09More ooh.
16:10Okay.
16:11Okay, you need.
16:12I love this shower.
16:15It's got a lot of options.
16:17And a beautiful bathtub.
16:19I love a standing tub by a big window.
16:21Okay, so that's a steam shower.
16:23So traditionally you'd want to steam and then sit on that bench.
16:26You wouldn't be able to sit there.
16:27When you're steaming, you want to relax.
16:30Like you want to like lounge or I don't know why it's kind of tiny.
16:33I think it's a good size bench, Adam.
16:35How long do you want to stay in that shower?
16:37Overall, I think Naveed had some really good things that he did with this home.
16:41Yeah, quality of this place is really nice.
16:44I feel like I have a really good chance to win.
16:47We'll see.
16:48Not if opponent Ruba has anything to say about it.
16:51She's here to clock the competition.
16:53I like the natural light.
16:55Very nice space.
16:57I wish she was one of the judges.
16:59Stunning.
17:00Love how it separates the rooms as well.
17:03Mm, she gets it.
17:04It's modern, it's elegant, but I, for me, it lacks a little bit of personality.
17:11I think the warmth that I've added in my place is gonna shine a little bit more.
17:16Warmth is overrated.
17:18Says the guy who likes to snuggle in bed.
17:20Very nice house, Naveed, but I feel good about mine.
17:24I guess we'll see.
17:29Okay, I think I've got a good chance.
17:34All right, judges, design, function, and added value are your metrics.
17:38Time to pick which house is on top of this block.
17:41Okay, crazy day.
17:42Crazy, I'm exhausted.
17:42Okay, so Ruba's house.
17:44Walking in, wow, excited, wondering what's around every corner.
17:48Inside was nice, tastefully done, but I wasn't a fan of the elevated family room the way it was kind
17:54of positioned.
17:54Yeah, the flow wasn't working for me.
17:56I love that elevated living space.
17:58I'm a huge fan of that lookout.
18:00For me, it would probably be that attempted dining space.
18:04That made the flow confusing.
18:06But how nice was that pantry?
18:07We need to give that pantry some time.
18:10That kitchen was pretty phenomenal.
18:12Very well thought out, very functional.
18:14But I can't stop talking about that basement.
18:16That was kind of the showstopper.
18:17Can we talk about 12-foot ceilings in a basement?
18:20That is unheard of.
18:21We have the three TVs there.
18:23Man cave.
18:24Hey, listen, it's even a woman's cave at this point because you could catch me down there.
18:27Let's sprinkle some joy on this conversation.
18:29We walk in and the home just starts talking to us.
18:33It's a well-lived in and well-loved home.
18:35Lots of nice pots of color that worked really well and flowed so nicely within the house.
18:40And then the sunken in TV room.
18:42I'm not going to lie, I did kind of like that.
18:43Not my jam.
18:44There's nowhere to put your coats, your boots, your shoes.
18:48Joy's family room really worked for me.
18:50Just loved it.
18:51Very personal touches.
18:52That gallery wall was amazing.
18:54And then walking to the kitchen, you're just like, ooh.
18:57I did not mind the kitchen.
18:58I liked it.
18:59It's clean, simple, very functional.
19:01But I would have liked to see something on that wall.
19:04Some jazz.
19:05Some pizzazz.
19:06Yeah.
19:06Let's take it to Naveed's house.
19:07Okay.
19:08High-end finishes.
19:09Yeah, I think the millwork is the best out of all three homes.
19:12Very tastefully done.
19:13When it comes down to the appliances, to that island, even the light fixtures.
19:17Naveed spent money.
19:18And let's not forget about the...
19:20Fire aquarium.
19:20It deserves a moment.
19:21That is his own special moment.
19:23What I loved about Naveed's house was that family room.
19:25It was cozy.
19:26I felt like I could sit down, watch TV, and be comfortable in that space.
19:30Something I didn't like about Naveed's house, not knowing what room I was in when I first walked in.
19:35Yeah.
19:35It was having an identity crisis.
19:37It didn't know if it was a study, a living room, dining room, kitchen.
19:39It was very much like a mullet.
19:41So it was business up front, but a party in the back.
19:44Obviously, today we have to make a decision.
19:46I think I know who I would choose.
19:48Sam.
19:48I think I got it.
19:49You guys ready?
19:50Let's go.
19:50Let's do this.
19:58Who's house will be crowned?
20:00Top of the block.
20:01I was happily surprised that the judges loved my basement.
20:05They loved and appreciated a lot of things that I hand-selected.
20:08Even though they had some constructive critiques to give, I still feel really good.
20:15Watching the judges go through my house was bittersweet.
20:18I think the judges appreciated my home.
20:21I put a lot of my heart into my home.
20:23And I don't know if they 100% got it.
20:28Watching the judges go through the house was very new, very different.
20:33But I'm confident about my house and design selections.
20:40No matter what the result is, I feel very confident with my home.
20:47I actually thought I was going to win.
20:49And now I'm not so sure.
20:52Although, you never know.
20:54I'm not out of the game.
20:55I know that much.
20:58They love the finishes, especially the millwork.
21:01So I think I got a good chance to win.
21:12Woo!
21:15Ruba?
21:16The suspense.
21:19You are the winner of Common of the Boys!
21:23I won!
21:24I can't believe it.
21:25This is awesome.
21:26What a great feeling.
21:27Wow, hugging with a brother.
21:33Love, love, love.
21:34I'm elated.
21:35It was just superbly designed.
21:37And your kitchen is amazing.
21:39Yeah.
21:39That porcelain island.
21:41Then you have that pantry and the beverage center.
21:43It just makes it so easy and seamless.
21:46You have the beautiful basement girl.
21:47Three TVs.
21:49And the ducks.
21:50The ducks!
21:51You love them?
21:52They're amazing.
21:52Oh, I love them too.
21:53You really deserved it.
21:55So congratulations again.
21:56Let's click umbrellas for a win!
21:56Thank you.
21:57Let's click umbrellas for a win!
22:02I'm definitely feeling disappointed.
22:05This outcome doesn't change how I feel about my space.
22:08It's more like, oh, it would have been nice to win.
22:10Of course I wanted to win, but I'm still very proud of her house.
22:15I think my house won because it is unique and different.
22:20And it's a reflection of our personalities, really.
22:23So it just makes me feel really proud that, you know, the judges love the home as much as
22:28I love my home.
22:28And it's a reflection of our personalities, really.
22:33Thank you.
22:33Thank you.
