00:00Does PKR, the Reformasi Party, need to reform itself?
00:04Otai otai, sila kembali.
00:06That was Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim's call to the old guards of PKR who had drifted away to return to
00:11the party.
00:12The call for reconciliation to party veterans came amidst resignations and electoral setbacks.
00:18And now, some of its former MPs have returned to the party's fold.
00:22But at the same time, four resigned from parliament within just a few months.
00:27They have also quit the party and in the process, PKR lost one of its key leaders, Datuk Sri Rafizi
00:34Ramli.
00:35Meanwhile, Deputy President Nuru Liza Anwar has also stepped away from her party duties for the time being as she
00:42is on study leave.
00:43All this comes as PKR faces one of its most difficult periods since coming into the government.
00:49It also saw a difficult run at the ballot box and its next big test will be the Melaka state
00:55elections.
00:55Which, Pandits are saying, is going to be a challenge.
00:59In Sabah last year, PKR won just one of the 12 seats it contested.
01:04Then, in the Johor state elections, Pakatan Harapan won 8 of the 56 seats down from 12 in 2022.
01:12With PKR winning just one seat.
01:15The latest setback came in Negeri Sembilan, as Pakatan lost the state it had governed since 2018.
01:20PKR was reduced to two seats after losing four of its six incumbent constituencies and seeing its Menteri Versaar defeated
01:28in the polls.
01:30Nuru Liza's absence has also brought another question into focus.
01:34Who is the future of the party?
01:37Vice President Dato' Sri Dr. Zaleha Mustafa had also pointed out that the party must now start planning for its
01:44future post-Anwar era.
01:46Despite all this, party leaders insist the story is not over.
01:51At its Congress in Melaka in August, Secretary General Dato' Suzia Saleh said,
01:56PKR may have lost the battle, but it will win the war.
01:59PKR now faces challenges in rebuilding its machinery, managing internal differences, renewing its leadership, and possibly even reforming itself.
02:10Ultimately, the question is whether PKR can keep the spirit of reformacy alive while adapting to a new political generation.
