00:22I mean definitely we could hear her it was more than an hour that we were in there in this
00:26whole
00:26process we could hear like a little crying and whimpering at times but when the curtains finally
00:31opened yeah she said her last words at one point at 734 she said my arm feels like it's about
00:37to
00:37burst open then she smiles really big botched executions are surprisingly not that rare
00:52there's a large body of research and evidence that goes into the depths of how botched executions
00:59happen in various different types of execution methods oftentimes it is botched executions that
01:05enable and empower the courts to determine that this execution method must be replaced by the next
01:11execution method and then we do it again but I will say in in Pike's case you know my understanding
01:18is
01:18that she's the only known person to have survived a complete execution attempt in the United States
01:24you know Krista has a long documented history as a survivor she has survived multiple childhood rapes
01:32and she has lifelong scars as a result of them lifelong challenges both medically speaking that
01:38have been attested to and are well evidenced in her court filings however you know at the time of her
01:43sentencing this wasn't brought up and so you can already look to the time of the sentencing when we
01:49decide as a society that this is an individual that should be condemned to death but could be the case
01:54that for a little bit of time we see less lethal injection as a required protocol for a state I
02:01do
02:01imagine that that can happen especially as a result of the scrutiny that is being received by Tennessee
02:06rightfully so but I don't imagine that lethal injection is going to be off the books I think we are
02:11at a
02:11point in time where our society is starting to wonder especially in light of this botched execution
02:16to what degree and to what extent do we think that the capital punishment system is working
02:21in this country and if it is working for whom and at what cost
02:31I can be angry at Krista for what she did to Colleen because Colleen did not deserve that
02:38Colleen's mother may she deserved to watch her daughter grow up she deserved if her daughter got
02:45married to walk her down the aisle she deserved to spend time with grandkids she deserved all of
02:50that Colleen deserved those chances too Krista took that from them I am angry at Krista for that
02:57but also Krista had a lot taken from her too I question at what point are we going to acknowledge
03:04that hurt people hurt people accountability yes but to what degree it's a gray area the death penalty
03:12can't be undone we can't reverse it we can't overrule it we can't vacate it once it's done it's done
03:18the resources that are poured into state sanctioned killings can be repurposed in a better way let's
03:25improve the systems that we have let's create better systems you know for victims families instead of
03:32spending the millions and millions of dollars that we spend on an execution let's pour that into
03:39victim services
03:44I do not have an explanation for what happened between Monday night and Tuesday morning but what
03:53we do know is that Krista has a long road to recovery she has a blood clot in one of
03:59her arms
03:59she has pneumonia she is not able to swallow yet so she is not eaten she cannot move either of
04:07her arms
04:07both of her arms and hands are tremendously swollen and we do not know what if any function she will
04:15regain
04:16in her arms Krista is a survivor and we remain hopeful all of this was foreseeable and foreseen what
04:25happened to Krista is exactly what the state was warned would happen and there are so many questions
04:31that need to be answered not by Krista but by the state of Tennessee we continue to ask Governor Lee
04:37to
04:38commute Krista's death sentence after all we have seen and all that we still do not know it is
04:44unimaginable that the state would try to execute her again
04:55to be answered truly a significant topic thatráin was averaged under and over the view of the
04:56in Codevida
