00:06Gracias por estar hoy con
00:07nosotros en M2, soy Susana
00:09Moscatel, tenemos muchos
00:11estrenos, este cierre de año
00:13viene con una cantidad de
00:14cosas increíbles, la primera
00:16de ellas se estrena ahora sí
00:18que este día nueve, ya, en un
00:20par de días, a través de
00:22Netflix, es la segunda
00:23película que Ben Affleck y
00:25Matt Damon producen con su
00:26nueva compañía, y es muy
00:29interesante porque animales, así
00:31se llama la cinta, es
00:33protagonizada por Ben Affleck,
00:35Kerry Washington, Luis Gerardo
00:37Méndez y Adriana Paz, platicamos
00:40con Luis Gerardo, Adriana y Ben,
00:42porque resulta que, pues, todos
00:45le metieron mano al guión, entre
00:46muchas otras cosas, así que aquí
00:49les dejamos la entrevista, pues,
00:50con este trío que de verdad se
00:53nota que ya se llevan
00:54increíble fuera de cámara.
00:56Cualquier secreto que se hayan
00:58guardado debe salir a la luz
00:59ahora.
01:03El poder genera ventaja.
01:07Y la ventaja determina los
01:10resultados.
01:14Tú lo causaste, tú pusiste este
01:17maldito blanco en la espalda.
01:18Si me vas a culpar por el
01:19secuestro de nuestro hijo, eso no
01:21es mi culpa.
01:22Ben.
01:23Yes.
01:23What is it about getting these
01:24particular amazing actors
01:26together that made it so that the
01:28story was told as it was told,
01:30because I think that's part of the
01:32story, who you chose.
01:34100%.
01:35100%.
01:36100%.
01:36100%.
01:36Ellos escribieron sus partes
01:38completamente.
01:40Y fue una gran responsabilidad para
01:42ellos.
01:42Les pregunté a hacer más trabajo que normal.
01:46Usualmente viene y se dice, ¿qué son mis
01:48líneas?
01:49¿Dónde ando?
01:50Y esto fue como, no, ayúdenme a hacer la
01:53película.
01:54Y también están representados millones de
01:57personas en el mundo que van a mirar esta
01:59película.
02:00Y también un asunto muy importante hoy en
02:04día.
02:05Me interesa darle seguimiento a eso,
02:07Adriana.
02:07¿Cuál fue el trabajo extra que hiciste para
02:10crear esta persona?
02:11Bueno, extra, pero muy gozoso, la verdad.
02:14O sea, fue muy bonito, más bien, como que nos
02:17diera el chance de, ayúdenme a escribir
02:20esto.
02:20O sea, dime si esto es algo que ustedes
02:22dirían.
02:23¿Están de acuerdo con lo que los personajes
02:24están diciendo?
02:25¿Quieren agregar algo más?
02:27Pues yo no lo siento extra.
02:29Yo más bien siento como que, qué privilegio
02:31poder ser parte de la creación y ser
02:33co-creador con él.
02:34Y sentirte escuchado y poder también, o sea,
02:37reunirme con Luis Gerardo y los dos aquí
02:39intensiando.
02:40Y esto, ¿y por qué no ponemos esto?
02:41Y si le decimos esto y todo.
02:43Y fue muy emocionante.
02:44Más bien como que te despierta esto de
02:48por qué eres actor, ¿sabes?
02:50O sea, volverte a sentir, ay, yo por esto hago
02:52esto, porque me emociona, porque a veces de
02:54pronto se vuelve rutina.
02:56Y poder volver a sentir que hay algo que te,
02:59que te, que te confronta y que te hace dar
03:03más de ti, a mí me hizo como que me brillaran
03:06los ojitos y el cuerpo y sentirme muy emocionada.
03:09Sí.
03:09Y en tu caso, Luis Gerardo, ¿qué hubo diferente aquí
03:12a todo lo que has hecho?
03:12Pues creo que un gran sentido de responsabilidad.
03:18O sea, creo que uno hace muchas películas en su vida,
03:20¿no?
03:20Y algunas son más divertidas, más importantes,
03:23más lo que quieras.
03:24Pero en esta era muy claro que Adrián y yo estábamos
03:27representando una comunidad de millones de personas,
03:30no solo en Estados Unidos, en el mundo.
03:32Personas migrantes, personas refugiadas, ¿no?
03:34Que están en un país donde no se sienten bienvenidas
03:37o bienvenidos.
03:38Y nosotros estamos representando a esos personajes
03:41en esta película, que es una película de Ben Affleck,
03:45de Netflix, que es un thriller, que va a llegar
03:46a 300 millones de hogares.
03:48Entonces, la posibilidad de que la audiencia pueda empatizar
03:52con estos personajes, que son los que están haciendo
03:55todo bien, que están tomando los riesgos más grandes,
03:57que no tienen protección, ¿no?
03:59Es que viven en un sistema que no les permite brillar
04:02o ser héroes.
04:02Es muy importante.
04:04Es muy importante poder hablar de estos temas
04:07en un thriller de Ben Affleck, ¿sabes?
04:09Y ese regalo, pues, viene con una responsabilidad
04:12importante también.
04:13Esto es realmente emocionante ver cómo se nos juntó.
04:16Y también es emocionante, creo,
04:18preguntar las preguntas moral, porque todos estos personajes
04:21son bajo la presión más extrema que yo nunca podía imaginar.
04:24Sí.
04:24Pero tienen que hacer choices,
04:26y las choices no siempre son buenas o malas.
04:29¿Cómo describirías su decisión?
04:31Sí, creo que la cosa más interesante para mí,
04:35para esta película, fue que es una película de preguntas
04:38y no muchas respuestas,
04:40y tiene que ser completamente auténtico,
04:44y un poquito provocativo.
04:47Y para mí fue un ejercicio en preguntar,
04:52¿qué pasa cuando tenemos que quitar la máscara?
04:55Que nos ponen cada día a sobrevivir.
04:59¿Sabes lo que quiero decir?
05:00Y cuando algo tan difícil pasa en tu vida,
05:06y tienes bastante miedo,
05:10descubre quién eres.
05:14Sí, gracias.
05:15Ellos me ayudaron en tantos manios.
05:19Pero, you know,
05:21tiene que ser, como tú dijiste,
05:24sí, moralmente,
05:24porque no hay héroes o vileos,
05:27en mi opinión.
05:29La única cosa fixa
05:32que quiero imponer en los películas
05:34es decir,
05:34diga la verdad,
05:36y no la idea de la verdad.
05:37El punto de esto
05:38es mostrar quién somos,
05:41incluso cuando no somos alguien
05:43que queremos mostrar a otras personas.
05:44La película es Animales
05:47y se puede ver a partir del día 9
05:49en Netflix.
05:51Brincamos de plataforma
05:52y nos vamos a Prime
05:53porque hay, digamos,
05:56una nueva versión,
05:57o más bien,
05:58una versión de Carrie,
06:00este gran clásico de Stephen King,
06:04una película originalmente
06:06protagonizada por C.C. Spacek,
06:07y resulta que esta serie
06:09no es específicamente
06:11una nueva versión de esa historia,
06:13sino es qué pasa con la familia
06:16y qué pasa con una Carrie en el futuro.
06:20Bueno, entre eso y mucho más,
06:22Yvette Salgado
06:24platicó con la protagonista
06:27respecto a esta serie.
06:28Así que vamos a ver
06:29lo que dice Samuel H. Howell
06:31sobre Carrie,
06:33la nueva serie.
06:36¿Qué? ¿Por qué?
06:37¿Por qué no solo lo fuiste?
06:45¿Por qué?
06:50Sé que para ti tampoco ha sido fácil.
06:54No lo ha sido para ninguna de nosotras.
06:59Y la peor parte.
07:04For many, many, many years,
07:06Carrie has been the ultimate icon
07:08for the outsiders.
07:10In this modern world
07:12full of screens
07:13and cell phones,
07:16what is the most heartbreaking part
07:17of playing a girl
07:19who is completely isolated
07:21from everything?
07:23Yeah, well,
07:24I mean,
07:25it's the fact that
07:26things can be captured
07:27and shared publicly
07:28and kept online
07:29for forever
07:30makes me think
07:32about the shower scene
07:33and how that
07:33our version is very different
07:35because now it's documented
07:36and it's a community's
07:38problem, really.
07:39And Carrie has to deal
07:40with so many eyes
07:41on her and her family.
07:44Yeah, social media
07:45has made bullying
07:46a lot scarier now.
07:49You don't know
07:49when it's happening
07:50to your child
07:51half the time
07:51and it's really up
07:53to the person
07:54with the phone
07:54if it's happening
07:55through the phone
07:56to put it down
07:57and my generation
07:58isn't taught to do that.
08:00It's quite the opposite
08:00to be addicted to it all.
08:03So learning to deal
08:04with that
08:05is a big part
08:06of our show.
08:07Absolutely.
08:09Samantha,
08:09Margaret is usually
08:11played as a pure villain
08:13but in this version
08:14her actions
08:15come from
08:16extreme fear
08:17and love.
08:18How do you feel
08:19a mother
08:19who sincerely
08:20wants to protect
08:22her daughter
08:22even if her methods
08:24or her techniques
08:26are very terrifying?
08:28Yeah,
08:28I mean,
08:29that was fundamentally
08:31one of Mike's changes
08:32was what if Margaret
08:33and Carrie
08:35love each other
08:35and I think
08:36you really nailed it
08:37in that
08:38it is the love
08:39for her
08:40that creates
08:41that thing,
08:43that fear,
08:44that hatred.
08:44It's because
08:45she's so terrified
08:46of what might happen
08:47to the things
08:47she loves most
08:48in the world
08:48and how does she
08:49react to that fear
08:50and hers is just
08:51aggression,
08:52it's violence,
08:53it's manipulation
08:55and I do think
08:56that at heart
08:56she feels
08:57that she's doing
08:57it all for Carrie
08:58but I think
08:59a lot is to
08:59soothe herself.
09:01And Summer,
09:02in this story
09:03a natural
09:03biological process
09:05as menstruation
09:06is the catalyst
09:07for your character's
09:08transformation.
09:09It makes me wonder
09:10what makes
09:11this specific element
09:13such a powerful metaphor
09:15for the awakening
09:16of a woman's
09:17inner strength.
09:19Yeah,
09:20well,
09:20I mean,
09:20it's just that
09:21we aren't taught
09:22much about our bodies
09:23really,
09:24or at least
09:24I wasn't growing up
09:25and taught
09:27that you have
09:27this strength.
09:28I always saw
09:29my emotion
09:30as like,
09:30why am I so emotional?
09:32Why am I like this?
09:33But really,
09:33it's my superpower.
09:35Especially with acting
09:36and how I can use that.
09:38It can be used
09:38for creative good
09:39and probably
09:40so many other things
09:41that I haven't even fathomed.
09:43So yeah,
09:44it's just,
09:45it's important.
09:46Girls need to know
09:47that they're powerful
09:48early on
09:48and we need to
09:49support them
09:50through everything
09:51and not hide it
09:52from them
09:53like Margaret.
09:55Yeah.
09:56Madre!
09:57Podrías arreglar esto ahora.
09:59Podrías lastimar a alguien.
10:00All no.
10:01Eso es lo que gano
10:02por ser amable.
10:02Que es lo que te sucede.
10:03Vuelvan a clases!
10:04No, no, no, no.
10:05Gary, por favor.
10:07Gary is the masterpiece
10:08that stars Stephen King
10:11legacy
10:12half a century ago.
10:13So how do you connect
10:15with this classic story
10:16bringing your character
10:17into today's
10:19social media generation?
10:21Yeah.
10:21I think that was,
10:22I mean,
10:22luckily,
10:23we have Mike Flanagan
10:24to trust
10:25to sort of balance
10:26like the,
10:27everything that people love
10:28about the original
10:29Carrie and now.
10:30What I love about it
10:31is that,
10:32you know,
10:32he does such a great job,
10:35I think,
10:35of honoring
10:35what this story really is,
10:37which it is,
10:38what is the horror
10:39of being a teenage girl
10:40in a modern world,
10:41especially when you're
10:42not familiar
10:42with that world?
10:43And obviously,
10:44social media
10:44is so deeply
10:45embedded in that
10:47that,
10:47you know,
10:48he talked to a group
10:48of teenagers
10:49in the writer's room
10:50and asked them about,
10:51what do you think
10:51the threats are
10:52that you're facing today?
10:53And they named a number
10:54of very realistic
10:55and very,
10:55like,
10:56things that we consider
10:56very dark
10:57but are very real to them
10:58and that's also
10:59what's in the show.
11:01And I think
11:02for our characters,
11:04there are two people
11:04who care deeply
11:05about these students
11:06and want to reach them
11:07and want to help them
11:08and want to help them
11:09make better choices
11:10but are also doing their best
11:11to sort of keep up
11:12with these circumstances
11:14and with these kind of,
11:15like,
11:15the eventual horrific events
11:17that sort of ripple
11:18throughout the entire community.
11:20I think that it's
11:21really relatable
11:22for me as well
11:22as a dad.
11:24I have three kids.
11:25They've all sort of lived
11:26under the specter
11:28of social media
11:29and so I've seen firsthand
11:31the effects,
11:32the negative effects
11:33of bullying
11:33that happens
11:34on social media.
11:35So for me,
11:36that's how I'm sort of
11:37pulled into this story
11:38but I think that
11:39once people
11:40make the choice
11:41to watch it,
11:42you're going to
11:42find the elements
11:44of Stephen King's Carrie
11:46that are so identifiable
11:48and that's something
11:49to look forward to
11:50but then you get
11:51these incredible
11:51performances,
11:52you get this
11:53very relatable story
11:55that's built
11:56in what's happening
11:57right now
11:57in America
11:58and the world.
11:59So I think that
12:00the people of Mexico
12:01will load in
12:02for one reason
12:03and then get carried
12:04away in the story
12:05because it's really
12:05a beautiful piece
12:06of storytelling.
12:08And you have to say
12:09that obviously
12:10it's a producer
12:11but Stephen King
12:12couldn't have been
12:13more excited
12:14of seeing this
12:15new version
12:16of his character.
12:18The first character
12:19that we know
12:20probably as
12:21if you do
12:23bullying
12:23there are consequences.
12:24I hope
12:24I hope
12:26we'll see you
12:26with that
12:27lesson.
12:27But well,
12:28with that
12:28we'll see you
12:29with that.
12:29Thank you.
12:30I'm Susana Muscatel.
12:31This is M2
12:32and we'll see you
12:33very soon.
12:35See you soon.
