Gunner, a lieutenant, and Ember, a doctoral student, have been married for years but rarely see each other and have minimal contact. Ember feels this isn’t how a marriage should be and considers divorce. After knowing her thoughts, Gunner brings her to his base, and their unfamiliar yet familiar married life officially begins.
