Thousands of students marched through downtown Rio de Janeiro on October 7 in a demonstration focused on public education, democracy and opposition to the advance of the Bolsonaro political movement. Protesters also expressed support for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva ahead of the October 25 runoff.
The demonstration was organized by student groups and temporarily blocked parts of central Rio. Reports describe the march as largely peaceful.
