The footage documents the first phase of demolition following the major four-alarm fire that gutted the 116-year-old Centennial Mills complex along Northwest Naito Parkway.

Because the fire burned through the interior timber framing and left all seven upper floors collapsed inside, the structural integrity of the outer brick walls was severely compromised. The steel water tower resting on the roof posed an immediate collapse hazard, prompting demolition crews to perform a controlled detonation at its base supports.

The blast successfully severed the legs, causing the water tank to drop straight down into the hollowed-out interior of the structure without bringing down the exterior perimeter walls onto the adjacent street.

With the water tower safely dislodged, crews transitioned to using heavy high-reach excavators to systematically dismantle the remaining exterior walls.
