The universe encompasses all of space, time, matter, and energy in existence. Formed approximately 13.8 billion years ago during the Big Bang, it expanded rapidly from an infinitely hot, dense point into an ever-evolving cosmos. Today, the observable universe spans roughly 93 billion light-years in diameter, containing trillions of galaxies, each hosting billions of stars, planets, nebulas, and black holes.

Most of the cosmos remains invisible to us. Normal matter—the atoms making up stars, planets, and living beings—accounts for only about 5% of its total content. The remaining majority consists of mysterious dark matter (27%), which holds galaxies together through gravity, and dark energy (68%), an elusive force driving the universe's accelerated expansion. Governed by fundamental physical laws, the universe continues to grow and cool, serving as an endless frontier of discovery.
