Tabby's Star, or KIC 8462852, became famous after Kepler detected irregular brightness dips reaching roughly 20%. The strange pattern inspired explanations ranging from circumstellar dust to the much more speculative idea of an alien megastructure.
Follow-up observations provided an important clue: different wavelengths are blocked by different amounts, strongly favoring fine dust. No convincing evidence of extraterrestrial technology has been found.
