00:00Hey, we're here to launch Operation Bathurst 2026, to be a high-profile police operation.
00:06The main priority about this event is to make sure that people that are attending the Bathurst 1000 event arrive
00:14safely and get home safely.
00:16There will be a high-visibility police operation on the way in and on the way out of this event,
00:21just ensuring that people are complying with the conditions.
00:23A lot of additional highway patrol in town, sufficient to ensure the safety of the race-goers, consistent with previous
00:34year's events.
00:35We're really excited to be producing what is Australia's favourite motorsport event this weekend.
00:43And the pilgrimage is on. We have tens of thousands of people making the trip to Bathurst at the moment.
00:49We're 10% up this time last year. That means people are coming into our city, our region, sooner.
00:56They know that there's going to be delays. They're taking it easy. They're enjoying the region.
01:00What I will say is, on Mount Panorama Racing Circuit, for this race to occur with our great partner, Supercars,
01:07a track closure requires the signature of a minister.
01:11The police commissioner, indeed, has to sign off so we can breach some speed limits.
01:16So unless you've got those two signatures out there on the road to prove to an officer that you can
01:22go fast, then I think you shouldn't.
01:24So make sure you're sticking to the speed limit. Make sure you're sticking to the road rules.
01:29And where there's work on the roads, slow down, pay attention to those people that are around you on foot
01:35and any plant equipment that you see on the roads.
01:38We know there's a lot of work occurring from every direction coming to Bathurst, including from Brisbane, from Sydney to
01:45Melbourne.
01:46Those thoroughfares are well signed, so if you see any road works, please take your time and slow down.
01:53We know.
