00:00But the Los Angeles Chargers are 0-4.
00:04They looked awful in the first half.
00:07They had some life in the second half.
00:10You're going to look at the box score.
00:11You're going to look at the final score.
00:12You're going to say, oh, they only lost by seven to the Seahawks team.
00:16The Seahawks were 3 of 12 on third down.
00:19They had only 286 total yards.
00:22Jackson Smith and Jigba kind of held.
00:25I mean, it was held under 100 yards.
00:27Justin Herbert had some picks that were just incredibly delicious sandwiches
00:33with extra oil and vinegar, John.
00:37I just don't even know what to say anymore about this Chargers team.
00:40I know that you and Josh have a pod, and you'll explain it more on that show.
00:45But make sure you check that out, by the way, at the Sporting Tribune.
00:49But what do you do now?
00:51Even after the game, they asked Jim Harbaugh,
00:55like, hey, what about Mike McDaniel?
00:57Like, it hasn't worked so far.
00:59Do you still have confidence in him?
01:01And he was just like, oh, we have faith in our coach.
01:03And then they had to follow up to like, so are you still with him?
01:07And he's like, yeah, yeah, yeah, we're good with Mike McDaniel.
01:09But initially, it's just like, yeah, he's doing good.
01:12We're going to grow as a coaching staff and as players.
01:15I don't know how many times I need to hear that from Jim Harbaugh
01:17before I say, all right, I've had enough.
01:20Like, are you actually going to make the change or not?
01:23When you, this team failed long before a regular season game started.
01:29And I can't keep repeating that enough.
01:32With this offense, you needed to have these guys practicing and playing in real games.
01:39This was not something where, oh, we're going to get in shape once the season starts type thing.
01:43We'll get it right when the season starts.
01:46You should have had these guys out here doing full quarters in the preseason,
01:51full old school preseason football if this offense was going to be timing based
01:56with the core that you had.
01:58They needed to know this offense inside and out in live action
02:02as much as you could with a preseason and a couple of mini camps.
02:08This Justin Herbert either has now broken by Mike McDaniel
02:12or he sucks now.
02:14You choose.
02:15You choose.
02:17Because there's no excuse for him.
02:19He took the money.
02:21Now I need the production.
02:24You can't hide behind, oh, it's Mike McDaniel's offense.
02:29You were winless.
02:31And you don't look like you have any signs of victory ahead of you.
02:37What today was the cosmetic.
02:39The end of this game was cosmetic, period.
02:42It's the best way to describe it.
02:43It looked good at the end.
02:45The Chargers had no chance in this game whatsoever.
02:50Whatsoever.
02:51They cannot score defensively.
02:53They struggle to score offensively until you take the governor off.
02:58Like, the Seattle Seahawks played this game to not lose at the end of it.
03:03That's why you get 30 to 23.
03:05But if the pedal would have been to the metal the entire time,
03:10the Chargers lose this game going away.
03:13Yeah.
03:14And that would have been the fourth game in a row.
03:16At the end of the game, they had no chance.
03:19That's on coaching.
03:21That is on.
03:22We know the warts now.
03:23We know what the issue is.
03:25Harbaugh's supposed to be good enough to fix this.
03:28Mike McDaniel's supposed to be smart enough to now trim down the offense
03:32and start giving guys only what they understand.
03:35Did that look like something you understand out there?
03:38Because it didn't to me.
03:39No.
03:40And the other thing is, like, yeah, their defense had its moments.
03:44And I said, like, all these things about holding Jackson Smith and Jacob under 100
03:48and they only had 286 total yards.
03:50Like, that's all great.
03:52But I just don't know where they go from here.
03:57You can't make a significant change.
04:00Better ball security?
04:02Like, earlier offensive production instead of doing it at the end?
04:06It should just be organic.
04:08Like, you shouldn't have to change anything significantly at this point
04:12because I don't think that that would change anything.
04:15Like, if you change out Mike McDaniel, you say, okay, well, this Mike McDaniel thing,
04:18after four weeks, it's been a disaster.
04:20You've made Justin Herbert worse.
04:22I don't think that benefits anybody.
04:24I think you just let it ride out.
04:26You see how it plays out.
04:27If it gets better, it gets better.
04:29Then you can carry that into next year.
04:30Because for me personally, I'm just out on them this year.
04:34I don't think they have it.
04:35Their schedule's tough already.
04:37Maybe they go on a little bit of a run.
04:39But in this AFC, where now you have the Raiders in front of you,
04:42who looked actually competent on offense with Kubiak.
04:45Who already beat you.
04:46The Broncos.
04:47You obviously have the Chiefs at the top.
04:50You have such a stacked division now to where even in your division,
04:53you can't even look around to the wildcard teams
04:55because those teams in your division will probably be the wildcard teams.
05:00Correct.
05:00So I think you just have to let it ride out.
05:03Right, John?
05:05Even though this season is pretty much a wash,
05:09now you need to dial this offense in.
05:11Now you need to start.
05:12If the plan is for Mike McDaniel to stay,
05:15and I don't doubt Jim Harbaugh,
05:18I think that he will stick with Mike McDaniel.
05:20Now you need to build this offense brick by brick.
05:24Take the playoffs off the table.
05:26Take any thought of the Super Bowl off the table.
05:28You now need to build this offense brick by brick
05:30with an understanding of they don't know it the way you want to teach it.
05:35So now you need to teach it how they can absorb it.
