The Id — The Inner Sounds of the Id 1967 (USA, Garage-Psychedelic Rock)

The Id was a psychedelic band based in Los Angeles, California. They released their only album in January 1967. But it all began not in Los Angeles, but in another city – Green Bay, Wisconsin. It was there, in a local up-and-coming band, that the three future members of this project – guitarist Jerry Cole, bassist Glenn Cass, and drummer Don Dexter – started out. This was back in 1958, and the band was called The Flaming Coals. Its members were, on average, 19 years old at the time, so by 1967, when they released their album, the musicians of The Id were slightly older and more experienced than the average psychedelic band. After the album's release on RCA Victor, the band's run under this name would be extremely short-lived, and after a few more gigs, it would fade away. The blame lies with the group's conflict with their producer.Οn hand for the Pet Sounds sessions was Jerry Cole, an exceptional guitar talent who paid the rent working for Phil Spector and did his own thing as the leader of Jerry Cole and His Spacemen. Between 1963 and 1964, Cole abused his whammy bar throughout several surf albums on Capitol that merged hot-rod abandon with ultrapro chops. One of the best players in this genre, Cole punched in solos for Carl Wilson on early Beach Boys’ records.

A quick study, Cole also scored a prominent place in the development of rock, performing on The Byrds’ “Mr. Tambourine Man” when the band proved too inexperienced to make their own rock and roll history. Shortly after, Cole was playing on Pet Sounds.
