00:03The weather is overcast at Los Angeles Airport when Madame Nhu, drawn and bitter, takes leave of the United States
00:10with her 18-year-old daughter.
00:12They are en route to Rome, where the former Vietnamese First Lady will have her first reunion with her three
00:18youngest children since the revolt that cost her husband his life.
00:22Madame Nhu has been quoted as saying she may return here in about a month.
00:25Meanwhile, in Saigon, the new revolutionary South Vietnam regime announces it will soon ban Madame Nhu's Women's Solidarity Movement and
00:35all other vestiges of the former regime.
00:37The dominant figures in post-revolt Vietnam are General Yuong Van Minh and Nguyen Ngoc Tho, premier in the provisional
00:45government.
00:46But the real power is held by Big Minh, nicknamed for the 200-pound general who led the coup, and
00:52his revolutionary council of generals.
00:55Buddhist leaders have come out of jail and out of hiding, and thousands pray at pagodas which last August witnessed
01:01a government crackdown.
01:03The anti-Buddhist repressions at times threaten to overshadow the war against the communist guerrillas.
01:09And so today, with calm restored, more vigorous military action is the goal, as the U.S. prepares to review
01:16its aid and to help stabilize the situation.
